Every tour, stay, and donation helps us save lives and spread compassion. Here, we are more than just a sanctuary—we're a lifeline for animals in need.
Guayabo Animal Rescue is a 300-acre sanctuary in Guayabo de Bagaces, Costa Rica, saving animals through rescue, adoptions, spay/neuter, education, and community support. Welcome to Guayabo Animal Rescue and Sanctuary
Nestled in the serene province of Guanacaste, Costa Rica, Guayabo Animal Rescue and Sanctuary spans 300 acres of pristine wilderness. Our dedicated team rescues, rehabilitates, and rehomes dogs, giving them a chance at a loving home. We also operate a pet food bank, providing essential support to families struggling to care for their pets during tough times. Our efforts extend beyond dogs; we rescue and care for horses, goats, and even have two adorable cows who have found safety and love with us. A cornerstone of our mission is our spay and neuter programs and medical support initiatives. These critical efforts help prevent overpopulation and ensure every animal receives the care they deserve. Additionally, we engage local school children through our educational programs, teaching them compassion and responsibility towards animals and the environment. Preserving our 300-acre sanctuary is crucial. It's not just a home for our animals but also a haven for wildlife, protected and cherished for generations to come. Guayabo Animal Rescue also offers eco-tourism opportunities for guests from around the world. Visitors can enjoy overnight stays in our spacious villa accommodations and explore our property on rescue horses, ATVs, or hiking trails. Be on the lookout for Howler monkeys, toucans, rare and beautiful butterflies, or even an elusive sloth. Guests will also be able to view stunning sunrises and sunsets from our wrap-around porches, alongside our free-roaming rescue dogs who can’t wait to love on you. We are more than an organization. We are a community, united by a shared passion to be the voice for the voiceless. Join us in our mission to save lives and make a lasting impact. Together, we can create a brighter future for animals in need and the people who love them. Guayabo Animal Rescue and Sanctuary: Where compassion meets action.

🚨 POR FAVOR — NECESITAMOS SU AYUDA. ESTO TIENE QUE PARAR. 🚨

🚨 PLEASE — WE NEED YOUR HELP. THIS HAS TO STOP. 🚨
We are beyond overwhelmed with the number of dogs and puppies needing our help.
Dumping animals is NOT acceptable — and abandoning a domestic animal is illegal in Costa Rica.
Please DO NOT come onto or near our property and leave dogs or puppies without contacting us first. You must ask whether we have space and whether we are able to take them. Leaving animals and simply driving away is abandonment.
We also have cameras around our property. We see you. If you dump animals here, we may have video documentation of what happened.
To those who recently left puppies without contacting us: we will be in touch. Individuals who abandon animals with us without authorization may also be placed on our Do Not Adopt list for future adoptions.
And PLEASE — sterilize your dogs. There is no reason to continue allowing unwanted litters to be born when so many animals already desperately need homes. Spaying and neutering saves lives.
❤️ WE ALSO DESPERATELY NEED HELP— We cannot care for all of these dogs alone. Every additional abandoned dog means more food, veterinary care, medications, vaccinations, sterilizations, supplies, cleaning, and daily care.
If you can donate, PLEASE DO. Even a small donation makes a tremendous difference.
$5 helps. $10 helps. $20 helps. Every single donation helps us continue caring for these animals.
Please donate. Please sterilize your pets. Please share this message.
And above all: PLEASE DO NOT ABANDON ANIMALS.

Loved having Kaleigh and Dan from Vermont staying with us for the week! What caring and awesome villa guests! And yes - Little Dan the puppy was named after Dan! 💓🐾🙌
💓 We call him Lil Dan 🙌🐾
If you stay with us this is your view - amazing sunrises and sunsets - all while saving lives! 🐾🇨🇷🙏🏻
