We are pleased to announce the successful completion of the CONNECTING Final Workshop, held on 28 May 2026 as part of the Summit at the Cyprus University of Technology / Τεχνολογικό Πανεπιστήμιο Κύπρου.

The workshop provided an excellent opportunity to present the achievements of the CONNECTING project and share its vision for establishing a Research and Innovation Knowledge Centre for Engineering in Heritage. Participants had the opportunity to explore innovative technologies and methodologies for documenting, monitoring, and preserving cultural heritage, including UAVs, LiDAR, terrestrial laser scanning, underwater documentation systems, cloud-based infrastructure, and advanced geospatial applications.

We would like to express our sincere thanks to all speakers, partners, collaborators, stakeholders, and attendees who contributed to the event's success. Their active participation, valuable insights, and continued support have been instrumental in advancing the project's objectives and strengthening collaboration within the heritage research community.

The workshop concluded with engaging discussions on future collaborations, knowledge exchange, and the sustainable exploitation of the project's infrastructure and results.

A special thank you goes to all project partners and supporters for their commitment throughout the project and for helping transform the CONNECTING vision into a lasting legacy for heritage research and innovation.

The Digital Heritage Summit 2026 week begins on 25 May 2026 in Limassol, Cyprus.
We look forward to welcoming partners, institutions, researchers, policymakers and innovators for a week dedicated to Europe’s digital cultural heritage.
Organised by the Unesco Chair on Digital Cultural Heritage in cooperation with Heritage Malta under the auspices of the Υφυπουργείο Πολιτισμού - Deputy Ministry of Culture CY Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU 2026 , the Summit will bring together policy, research, technology, innovation and cultural heritage protection to help shape the future of Europe’s shared heritage.

As part of the Digital Heritage Summit 2026 / EuroMed 2026, Europe’s leading forum for digital cultural heritage research, policy, and innovation, the CONNECTING – Research and Innovation Knowledge Centre for Engineering in Heritage project is organising its Final Workshop, presenting key outcomes, advanced infrastructures, and innovative technologies supporting cultural heritage documentation and monitoring.

Research titled “Introducing AI Chatbots for Remote Sensing Archaeology” was presented at the Computer Applications and Quantitative Methods in Archaeology (CAA) conference in Vienna. The work forms part of Nikolas Melillos PhD and is also supported by the Connecting project, of which he is a member. The study explores how computer vision and conversational AI can be combined to support archaeological remote sensing, moving beyond detection towards interpretative reasoning and more interactive analysis. The project is ongoing, and valuable feedback was received during the presentation, supporting its further development.
