Grassroots nightlife spaces are often created, used and operated by the very people who are among the first to be affected when democracy is weakened. We wanted to understand how these spaces contribute to fostering democratic society beyond their walls. 🌙

We are happy to share our newest study, Nightivism in Practice: A Best Practice Report on Grassroots Nighttime Culture and Democracy, as part of .in.action.

A huge thank you to everyone who contributed their time and insights. We are very thankful for your support!

We would love to hear your feedback, and to hear if you observe other democratic practices emerging in your grassroots nighttime communities.

What is the culture of a city after dark?

ADE and VibeLab are collaborating on a special project: the Nighttime Culture Index, a global first, launching at ADE Pro this October for 30 YEARS ADE. A public measure of the cultural vitality of the world’s nights, the first edition will research six cities across six continents: Amsterdam, Lagos, New York, São Paulo, Seoul, and Sydney.

If you’re part of the nighttime culture of any of these cities, whether you live there, work there, or know its night culture firsthand, we’d love to hear your perspectives. The survey is open now and takes under 10 minutes.

We’re happy to share that VibeLab has been invited to the Cities After Dark: Creative West Night-Time Economy Summit in Footscray on Friday, 28 August. 🌙

As cities everywhere grapple with questions of safety, vibrancy, economic resilience and community connection after dark, the City of Maribyrnong is bringing together some of the most innovative cultural thinkers to debate, explore and test the ideas behind its plans for an ambitious new project: Creative West.

What do you think about citizen co-created architecture? Could something like this benefit your city?
