Topic: COMMUNITY IS AN ENCOURAGEMENT
Verse: ACTS 11:19-30

com·mu·ni·ty
a group of people living in the same place or having a particular characteristic in common.
a feeling of fellowship with others, as a result of sharing common attitudes, interests, and goals.

encouragement
the action of giving someone support, confidence, or hope.
persuasion to do or to continue something.
the act of trying to stimulate the development of an activity, state, or belief.

encouragement is a commandment from God

1 Thessalonians 4:18
Therefore encourage one another with these words.

1 Thessalonians 5:11
Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.

Hebrews 3:13
But fexhort one another every day, as long as it is called “today,” that none of you may be hardened by gthe deceitfulness of sin.

what is encouragement in the bible?
not physical encouragement

encouragement the Scriptures refer to is explicitly (no doubt) Christian encouragement.

Encouragement is shared with the hopes that it will lift someone’s heart toward the Lord God is using them

Encouragement is shared with the hopes that it will lift someone’s heart toward the Lord (Col. 4:8)

The New Testament reveals that encouragement was a regular part of the early church’s life together

why we need encouragement?

God commanded that his people encourage each other because he knows we need it.

“But take heart; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33).

We live in a broken world where everything calls us toward selfishness and despair.

James 1:2–3
Count it all joy, my brothers,2 when you meet trials fof various kinds, 3 for you know that gthe testing of your faith hproduces steadfastness.

he called us to be an encourager
When encouragement is absent from the life of a church people will feel unloved, unimportant, useless, and forgotten.
Hebrews 3:13

HOW DO I GROW IN BEING AN ENCOURAGEMENT TO OTHERS?

Pray for God to make you an encourager
Ask him to help you die to self-centeredness and grow in a desire to build others up.

Make encouragement a daily discipline.
For some of us encouragement comes naturally, for others, not so much. I have a reminder in my calendar each day to send someone an encouraging note, email, text, or phone call.

Pray for God to show you who to encourage.
Use Scripture if you’re able.
Be specific in what you say.
Regularly encourage your pastor.
Pray that God would create a culture of encouragement in your church.
Be wise.
Get started.

Questions:
1. what things discouraged you now?
2. paano nakakatulong ang inyong community na maencourage ka? in what way?
3. paano ka bilang isang encourager sa ibang kapatiran?
