The Macro-Plastic Trap

A floating bottle cap may seem harmless, but to a hungry seabird it can look like its next meal.
Plastic pollution is one of the greatest threats facing seabirds today.

Mistaking plastic for food can leave birds with stomachs full of indigestible waste, causing starvation, internal injuries, and exposure to harmful pollutants. Adults may even unknowingly feed plastic to their chicks.

💙 The good news? This is a threat we can all help reduce.

♻️ Refuse unnecessary single-use plastics.
👜 Choose reusable alternatives.
🏖️ Support clean-up campaigns.
📢 Help spread awareness.
🌊 Check out our infographic to learn how plastic pollution affects seabirds and the simple actions we can all take to protect our oceans.

🐢🌊 Plastic-Free July | The Jellyfish Illusion

A turtle cannot tell the difference between a jellyfish and a plastic bag. But we can.

For millions of years, marine turtles have travelled across our oceans, playing an important role in maintaining healthy marine ecosystems. Today, these ancient ocean travelers face a growing threat caused by human activities-plastic pollution.

Floating plastic bags can closely resemble jellyfish, causing turtles to mistake plastic for food. Once ingested, plastic can cause digestive blockages, internal injuries, malnutrition, and even death.

As part of our commitment to raising awareness through the Young Professional Taskforce, this Plastic-Free July we highlight how our everyday choices can directly impact wildlife.

Marine turtles cannot choose what enters their oceans.
But we can choose what we leave behind.

🌊 Reduce plastic. Protect oceans. Give turtles a safer future.

🌊🐢 World Sea Turtle Day | June 16

Do all regions of the world have sea turtles?
The answer is no.

Sea turtles have inhabited Earth’s oceans for more than 100 million years, traveling across the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans. However, they are absent from Antarctica and other polar regions because the extremely cold waters cannot support their survival.

These ancient marine reptiles play essential roles in maintaining healthy ocean ecosystems. From supporting seagrass meadows and coral reefs to regulating marine food webs, sea turtles are vital contributors to ocean health.

Despite their long evolutionary history, sea turtles now face increasing threats including plastic pollution, habitat loss, climate change, illegal harvesting, and accidental capture in fishing gear.

World Sea Turtle Day also honors Dr. Archie Carr, known as the “Father of Sea Turtle Biology,” whose pioneering research and conservation efforts inspired global action for sea turtle protection.

💙 Protecting sea turtles means protecting our oceans.
