Art by Law

Some sneak peaks from my latest oil painting. It’s still very much a work in progress but it’s coming together slowly.

It’s been a bit of a challenge because the landscape is descending into twilight which makes the darks pretty dark, but at the same time the sunset is highlighting everything it touches so there’s a lot of contrast going on as well as highly pigmented colours.

Featuring my favourite ‘cotton candy sky’ 💕☁️

Some quick tree studies 💛❤️💚🧡

A little study I finished last night 🕯️

I wonder what’s she’s thinking? I almost feel like there’s a raven missing from her shoulder.

Still very much enjoying my medieval era 👑

Really enjoyed this little study of Waterhouse’s ‘Hyla and the Nymphs.’ (I switched the reference to face the opposite way as it seemed more of a challenge for my brain.) John William Waterhouse is hands down one of my favourite painters as he blends romanticism and classicism which I love. I also learnt a lot about his use of colour and his open brushwork when it comes to the backgrounds.

Behind the scenes I am still working on my biggest painting yet which is taking some time! Life’s not been easy recently but I’m grateful to always have my art 🖼️🎨🖌️

Finished this painting last night and her facial expression reminds me a little of a modern day ‘Mary Magdalene in the Cave’ by Hugues Merle. It’s about emotional overwhelm and the woman’s prerogative of having to keep it all together and keep going despite this.

Process video on the last slide.

Still enjoying the looser rendering and textures.

Here’s a work in progress of a digital painting to please the algorithm 🎨
I will write more about it once I’ve finished.

Today I have my pre-op assessment over the hospital so I’m a little nervous as it’s making the upcoming surgery more real. Not sure if I’ll be given a date today but it wont be long.
