Igniting the Scottish Screen Industry

Scotflix launches on the 12th of September at the Scottish Screenwriters Festival, in Glasgow.
Thank you to everyone who has reached out, and to all the content owners, production companies, short filmmakers and podcasters who have already committed their content to the platform so far.
The support we're receiving is incredible, and highlights the need for something like this to be emerging now.
We have just under 30 days through August to get as much of your content on as possible before the launch.
Thanks to the Hiway technology we are using, there are no limits to how much content the platform can showcase and stream, though of course, the Scotflix team will curate everything to make sure the platform is full of content Scottish audiences and fans all around the world, will want to watch.
Do you have a feature (film or documentary) that went through a festival run and never picked up distribution?
Do you have a podcast series you're looking to amplify?
A few shorts you think you can package together and build your community through?
We know there are so many hidden gems about and from Scotland out there!
It only takes a few minutes to create an account on Hiway, upload your content, set the metadata and send a syndication link (digital contract) for our team to receive and review.
Then we set it live, with time for you to check it and test it out before the launch.
Head to https://lnkd.in/ervyNA4t to find out how easy it is.

This Thursday marks the launch of Scottish Screenwriters Festival Presents, our brand-new partnership with Showcase Cinema.
Every Thursday in the lead-up to this year's Scottish Screenwriters Festival, we'll be bringing exceptional films—and the people who made them—to the big screen.
We're kicking things off with something rather special!
'All Quiet on the Western Front' (Academy Award winner), followed by a live Zoom Q&A with Oscar-winning Scottish screenwriter Lesley Paterson.
Lesley will be talking about adapting one of the world's most celebrated novels for the screen, the creative process behind the film, and the journey from Scotland to the Academy Awards.
For me, this series is about creating regular opportunities for writers, filmmakers, students and audiences to come together, watch great work, ask questions, and build a stronger screen community here in Scotland!
If you've been following what we're building with the Scottish Screenwriters Festival, I'd love for you to come along and support this first screening.
Every person in the audience helps show there's an appetite for events like these.

Over the last eight years, I've found myself asking the same question over and over:
What if Scotland didn't just make great screen content... what if we owned more of the value it created?
For decades, Scotland has produced extraordinary writers, filmmakers, actors and crews. But too often the intellectual property, audience relationship and long-term value leave with the distribution.
That’s the question that ultimately led to ScotFlix because I believe we need stronger infrastructure that connects creators directly with audiences while allowing them to retain more ownership of what they build.
That's the thinking behind ScotFlix and I’m grateful to Prolific North for taking the time to explore the bigger picture behind the platform and why I believe this moment matters for Scotland's screen sector.
One of the lines from the interview that probably sums up my thinking best is:
"There is no shortage of audience for Scotland. There is a shortage of infrastructure and connection."
ScotFlix isn't the finish line.
It's one part of a wider vision through Firewalker Studios to strengthen the journey from development, to production, to distribution, while helping creators build sustainable careers around their work.
Thank you to everyone who has encouraged, challenged and contributed ideas over the last few months.
The conversations since announcing ScotFlix have reinforced something I already believed:
People don't just want another platform. They want an ecosystem that gives Scottish stories the best possible chance to thrive.
The work is only just beginning, but I'm excited for what's ahead.

🔥Some exciting news today...
When we started the Scottish Screenwriters Festival, the goal was always bigger than two days of talks.
It was about creating more opportunities for Scottish stories and the people who tell them.
Yesterday, The National featured ScotFlix—a new platform we're building through Firewalker Pictures to help Scottish stories reach audiences while giving creators greater ownership of their work.
And this September, at the Scottish Screenwriters Festival, we'll officially launch ScotFlix to the industry.
www.scottishscreenwritersfestival.com
This is just the beginning, but it feels like an important step towards building more of the infrastructure our screen sector needs—not just developing great stories, but helping them find audiences.
A huge thank you to everyone who's been part of this journey so far, to Hiway , Zach Rothwell , David Orman and Adam Greenwood for developing a system that empowers Scotflix in such an aligned way.
And of course, to Alasdair Ferguson at The National for covering the story. 🗞️
