Edinburgh South CFC Roma 2012s - Div 2

Frustrating day which results in us exiting Scottish Cup in an early round for the 3rd successive season.

A positive opening 10 mins slowly deteriorated into a lethargic first half and we were unable to make the most of the downward slope as the game remained goalless going into the break.

Just couldn’t do the basics right in the 2nd half and Dalkeith took full advantage of the slope. Back down to earth with a bump after such a positive outcome last weekend. Sore one for sure and one we’ll need to try and put it right!

MOTM: Think it’s fair to say no one was at their best, but Oliver stood out for putting in a power of work off the ball and didn’t seem distracted by the gash in his knee which required treatment a couple of times during the match. Good for him to get a full game under his belt after a few weeks out in the summer. James picked up a few votes too 👍⚽️

After 4 successive home games to kick of the campaign, South welcomed a trip across Edinburgh for a predicted physical battle with Corstorphine Dynamo. The hosts had gotten the better of us in recent head to heads, including a pre-season tournament victory, thus Roma were motivated to put that right this afternoon.

A nip and tuck first half with the score 1 all going into the break. Neither side respectfully set the world alight in the opening 40, albeit the cross-field gale had a part to play in that.

The men in red kicked on in the final half hour and controlled the game from there on in and thankfully this week got their just rewards in front of goal and sealed an assured 5-1 victory.

Parents’ MOTM: Noah Elam - came on for the last half hour and wreaked havoc for the Dynamo back line. His pace and intent on the ball earned him 2 assists plus his first goal of the season ⚽️ Delighted for you pal 💪❤️ Lauchlan and Cooper in contention too with a mammoth effort across the 80 👍

A share of the spoils for Roma at the new Liberton Community Campus. The hosts found themselves 2-0 and 3-2 up respectively by HT, but a single North Berwick goal in the 2nd 40 earned them a point to take back down the road.

A competitive and physical game that turned into a real battle. We felt like we had to work harder for our goals and allowed the borders outfit back into the game. 4 league games in, and there’s certainly no mugs in this 2nd division.

Parents’ MOTM: Alasdair MacLeod - a vocal and hearty performance in the centre of the pitch. Ran his socks off alongside Declan and Oliver for most/all of the game ❤️⚽️

An improved performance from last week but the game was determined in front of goal. The game hung in the balance at 2-1 for the majority of it, and Roma chucked another forward on to go for it at the end. We didn’t quite manage the all important equaliser and Dalkeith grabbed 2 late goals against the run of play.

Parents’ MOTM: Robbie Hamilton - a thoroughly deserved first MOTM award for our new centre half. Was never beat easy and headed clear every ball that came near him. Growing in confidence, we’re excited to see him continue his journey with South 💪⚽️ Alasdair stood out too for us with a tireless and vocal showing in centre mid ❤️ well done lads 👏

We’ve not found ourselves on astro too often in recent memory, but back at Holyrood today to entertain Tranent who like us kicked off their campaign with a win last week.

The visitors asked more questions of us across the piece, and we didn’t have the right answers on this occasion. A deserved victory for the men in maroon and one to reflect on from our point of view, and use as am******on to improve on.

A unanimous decision for our parents’ MOTM in the man between the sticks. Certainly the busier of the 2 keepers and intervened on a number of occasion to keep us in it until the end. Well done pal 👏💪

A positive start to the campaign with a 6-3 victory over capital neighbours Edinburgh Utd. The hosts started brightly with too early goals but allowed United back into it with 2 soft goals via a penalty and a corner.

The boys in red stepped it up a notch after the interval to put the game to bed. Delighted with the tenacity and work ethic across the team, especially from Declan, Ashton and Alasdair who put in tireless shifts in centre mid from start to finish.

Our first Parents’ MOTM went to Cooper for a standout performance at full back. One of last season’s coaches’ players of the year started this season like he finished the last, but with an improved element of attacking play in his role. Like a man possessed he was in that 2nd half and showed no signs of letting up 💪❤️⚽️

Apologies, it’s been a bit quiet on here recently. The squad have been hard at work during pre-season in preparation for the upcoming U15s campaign. We’ve had competitive friendlies with the likes of Lochend FA and East Calder Utd, as well as tournaments in Stirling, Morton, and at our very own home - Inch Park - where we hosted an 8 team tournament last weekend ❤️⚽️
