How to create invoices that get paid faster
โ
The small details that prevent payment delays
โ
Common mistakes that lead to unnecessary chasing
โ
Simple changes you can implement immediately
Most unpaid invoices don't become overdue because customers don't want to payโthey become overdue because the payment process wasn't set up for success.
I'll also answer your questions during a live Q&A, so bring along the challenges you've always wanted to discuss.

โฐ๏ธ If you live in Tyrol, you know the pattern of a summer day.
โ๏ธ The morning starts with blue skies and sunshine. The mountains look perfect, and you think:
โThis could be the perfect day.โ
Running a business often feels exactly the same.
โ
You do a great job.
โ
You deliver your product or service.
โ
You send your invoice.
And you naturally assume your customer will pay.
But just like the weather in the Alps, things can change quicklyโฆ ๐ฆ๏ธ
By late afternoon, clouds start building, the wind picks up, and you know what is coming:
โ๏ธ Rain. Thunder. Lightning.
In Tyrol, you donโt argue with the storm, you prepare for it.
๐ You have shelter.
๐ก๏ธ You protect yourself and your belongings.
๐ง๏ธ You manage the storm until the skies clear again.
Late payments in business are no different.
๐ธ Some customers forget.
๐ธ Some have cash flow challenges.
๐ธ Some simply donโt prioritise paying you.
The question is not if a storm will come, it is whether you are prepared when it does.
๐ Have a plan.
โ๏ธ Put processes in place.
๐ Know what you will do when invoices become overdue.
Because just like a Tyrolean summer storm, a payment storm in business is inevitable.
The difference between being caught out and staying in control?
Preparation. โฐ๏ธ
๐๏ธ During my interview with Matthew Gambold, our editor captured one of my strongest beliefs about business.
โ๏ธ Legal frameworks are important, but they can only go so far. Small businesses also have to navigate trust, relationships, judgement, and ethical decisions every single day.
๐ก Laws cannot fix poor business attitudes, misunderstandings, or a lack of moral responsibility.
๐ค That is why integrity, values, and business ethics matter so much. They are the foundation of sustainable businesses and strong relationships.

What keeps a small business relevant in a rapidly changing world?
๐๏ธ Listen to Matthew Gambold share his thoughts on staying relevant as a small business owner. One insight really stood out to me: the importance of regularly reflecting on yourself, your business, and how you're adapting to change.
The full interview will be released soon.
Stay tuned to Business Unfiltered so you don't miss it.
๐๏ธ Listen to Matthew Gambold sharing an important reality of running a small business:
๐ก Very few business owners are experts in every single area needed to build and manage a successful company.
๐ Finance, marketing, sales, operations, legal matters, technologyโฆ the list is endless. The challenge is not knowing everything โ it is recognising where you need support, learning continuously, and building the right network around you.
๐ค Successful entrepreneurs know that asking for help and surrounding themselves with the right people is a strength, not a weakness.

Every time a small business overcomes one hurdle, policymakers seem to put another one in its way.
Listen to Matthew share his experience of running a small business and the constant battle with policies, regulations, and red tape.

Youโve done the work. Youโve sent the invoice. The due date has passed. But you hesitate to chase it because you donโt want to seem pushy.
Now flip the script ๐
If you were the customer who owed the money, what would you think when no one follows up?
Maybe:
โข theyโre not serious about getting paid
โข theyโve forgotten
โข they can afford to wait
From that perspective, your silence sends a message.
It can make your invoice seem less urgent, your terms less important, and your business easier to delay โณ
Thatโs the mind game: when you donโt chase payment, your customer may not see politeness โ they may see permission.
Credit control isnโt about being aggressive. Itโs about protecting the value of your work and showing that payment matters โ
What do you think your customer learns about you when you stay quiet?
23/07/2026
He praises it, opens it, takes a sipโฆ
โฆand then pours 20% of the bottle down the sink.
Youโd be speechless.
Why? Because everyone knows thatโs throwing away something valuable.
Yet many businesses do something remarkably similar.
When an invoice becomes overdue and nothing happens for two months, the chances of recovering the money have already fallen to around 80%.
Every week of delay increases the risk that the customer canโt pay, wonโt pay, or simply disappears.
In other words, by delaying action, youโre effectively pouring part of the value of your invoice down the drain.
๐ก Credit control isnโt about being aggressive. Itโs about protecting the value youโve already created.
How long do you typically wait before taking firm action on an overdue invoice?
