What happens to event materials once the show is over? Sometimes, they end up exactly where they're needed most. π
Following the European Political Community Summit at Blenheim Palace, we worked with event agency Identity to make sure leftover furniture and materials found new homes instead of the skip. Carpet, timber boards and furniture were redistributed to 14 charities, schools and community groups across London, East England and the South East.
Two of those organisations were The Community Project and The Shawfield Trust, a co-housing community whose shared space hosts everything from arts, dance and music groups to girls' empowerment groups and exercise classes, with weekend retreats and social gatherings for refugees among their goals. Here's what they told us:
"We're really grateful for the items we've received from Event Cycle. We received some very simple and lovely benches which we use as seating for performances and around the hall when groups are rehearsing. Recently we received some lampshades which work really well in a quiet breakout space along with the cushions which get used in circling retreats, yoga sessions and with the midwives who come. Thank you Event Cycle - you're doing a fantastic job for everyone and the planet."
If your organisation could use furniture, equipment or materials like these, it's completely free to receive them, including delivery!

Today is the start of , and this year's campaign from Recycle Now has one clear ask: rescue recyclable items from the bin.
We're all for that. But at Event Cycle, we'd push it one step further.
Before anything reaches recycling, we ask a different question: can it be used again first, exactly as it is?
That's the thinking behind the hierarchy we work to every day:
β»οΈ Reuse, rethink, redesign: the best outcome, keeping items in use as they are
β»οΈ Reduce and reuse: cutting down on new purchases and reusing wherever possible
β»οΈ Prepare for reuse: light repair or adaptation so an item can be used again
β»οΈ Recycling: stripped down and separated by material, a last resort
β Landfill: the worst outcome, and the one we work hardest to avoid
Recycling has its place, but repurposing keeps an item whole, keeps its value intact, and by working with us, gets it straight into the hands of a charity, school or community group that needs it.
Just one example is Dutch and Brit, where eight pull-up banners that could easily have gone for recycling instead found a second life as community signage. Now, that leftover material is helping two charities promote their work.
So this Recycling Week, before you recycle, ask: could this be reused first?

Are you a charity, school or community group in need of building materials?
We make sure surplus event materials, like wood, foamex boards, paint, screws (if they come in the original packaging), carpet and tarps, find a second home.

Ever wondered what happens to materials from a big retail display once it comes down?
After an installation at the adidas flagship store on Oxford Street, we found new homes for the retail pieces through our local charity network.
Retail display units and TV stands went to Bassuah Legacy Foundation, a charity supporting single parents and their families. They're now foldable wall-mounted tables in the charity's youth space, used for arts and crafts, IT training and meetings.
For charities, schools and community groups, buying assets like these outright isn't always possible. With a little coordination, materials headed for landfill become lasting additions to your programmes instead.
If your organisation could use furniture, staging or display materials, we'd love to hear from you. We'll let you know when suitable items become available and organise the logistics, so register for free via our website: www.eventcycle.org π

Set equipment like plinths, lecterns, stage decks and exhibition booth items are the kinds of items that too often end up in a skip once an event wraps up.
But at Event Cycle, we repurpose these so that they can go to schools, community groups and charities who need them.
If your organisation could put any of these to use, get in touch and we'll talk you through how it works. It's free at every step: the items are free, delivery is free, and signing up only takes minutes.

π’ Could your organisation benefit from donated hygiene supplies?
At Event Cycle, we collect surplus toiletries from events and redistribute them to charities, community groups, social enterprises and schools.
From hand sanitiser and small soaps to shampoos and conditioners (all unused and in their original packaging), we make sure these leftover resources find a second home, not a skip.
Whether you provide support for people experiencing homelessness or refugees, run community wellbeing programmes or deliver vital local services, we'd love to connect you with donations.

We can't believe we're already halfway through 2026! The good news? There's still time to rethink what happens to your event materials, reduce what goes to landfill, and support communities long after the show ends.
Here's what our first half looked like in numbers:
π¦ 13,126 items donated to charities, community groups, schools and social enterprises
π€ 97 organisations supported across the UK and internationally
π Β£237,694 in social impact value generated, helping third sector organisations redirect vital funds to frontline work
π± 9,814 kgCO2e saved by keeping materials out of landfill
β»οΈ 28,962 kgCO2e saved by charities not needing to buy items new
Every one of these numbers started the same way: an event, a production or a temporary project that could have ended at the skip, and didn't.
So if you're planning an event in the second half of 2026 and want to build responsible material management in from day one, we'd love to talk: [email protected]
