‘The Power of Covenant’ - Rev Adam Slate

In traditions that do not require us to adhere to a specific doctrine or creed, spiritual identity comes from shared practices and from our commitment to one another. Within Unitarianism, this commitment finds expression in the concept of 'covenant': the agreements we make about how we will be in relationship. On this Sunday, as we recognise those who have decided to become formal members of New Unity, we will explore what it means to live in covenant with each other.

A potluck lunch follows the gathering. All are welcome!

The Global Justice Discussion Group is at 12.45pm > 2.15pm. It's a monthly space at New Unity to make sense of events happening in our fast-changing world. September's theme is "income and wealth inequality", led by Nancy Brown and Rev Adam.

'Ethical Eating - Rev Adam Slate

As Fairtrade Fortnight (21 Sept - 4 Oct) approaches, this gathering will turn our attention to the plate: what we eat, who produced it, and what it costs the earth and each other. We'll explore ethical eating as a spiritual practice—considering veganism, fair trade purchasing, and the everyday choices that connect us to farmers, workers, and the wider web of life. In the spirit of conscience and compassion, we'll consider what it takes to move from guilt to a greater awareness of how to nourish ourselves in ethical and sustainable ways.

‘The Distance between Scarcity and Abundance’ - Rev Adam Slate

In a world that constantly tells us there isn't enough—not enough time, money, or other resources—this service will explore the motivations and implications of a scarcity mindset versus an abundant heart. Drawing on Unitarian traditions of gratitude, mutual aid, and interconnection, we will look at what it takes to trust in abundance, and consider how communities of generosity, love, and belonging are built not from what we have, but rather from how we choose to share it.

‘Constructing a Family’ - Rev Adam Slate

World Childless Week, observed this year on 14-20 September, reminds us that not every family looks the same, not everyone has the family they envisioned for themselves, and we often create our own family networks. Two New Unity groups are starting up again in September after the summer break.

Mindful Mondays with Carola will recommence on 14th September at lunchtime. Onward dates available on our website. Whether you are new to meditation or an experienced meditator, all are welcome.

‘Telling Time’ - Rev Adam Slate

For all its virtues as a tool for punctuality, time is both fluid and malleable. It can seem to speed up or slow down, it changes texture as we age, and it can mean different things across cultural traditions. Time can free us, or it can hunt us with unyielding ruthlessness. It is both a tool and a construct of the people and societies who rely on it. How can we make any sense of it at all?

‘Our Earth, Our Responsibility: Beyond Personal Dominion’ - Rev Andy Marshall

The growing impact of climate change has ignited a debate over whether humans have dominion over the earth to use it as we please, or whether we are stewards responsible for protecting its resources. Over the past half century, many companies have quietly worked to shift the focus away from corporate impact and toward individual accountability. At this service, Anglican minister and university chaplain Rev'd Andy Marshall will explore how the influence and resources of powerful organisations and people make them more accountable for leading in the stewardship of our planet.
