FreeStyle CIC helps individuals & communities in Middlesbrough to flourish through creative projects. Human progress is possible for us.
FreeStyle's evolutionary purpose is seeing real transformation in our area. We search for connection to grow positive, holistic community. As individuals and communities we can hope for something better. It emerges all around us but needs cultivating. And so, our organisation is set-up as a diverse ecosystem of projects, actions and meeting spaces to help make that progress possible. We design bold grass-roots work as well as hosting creative spaces for us to wrestle with our place in the universe. Our activities constantly flex in response to the changing needs but at the moment include:
Alley greening and the Urban Rebirth network. Community development and organising, youth work, skills sharing workshops. Alternative faith collectives and events to disect our beliefs. We have a resource team dedicated to hosting conversations, unconferences and starting bold new expressions of community. Working with Community Connectors to facilitate bold connections between activists. Creating resources to support our communities during Covid. We are passionate about community-led activities, and partnering where we can to realise a better, more connected world. Whatever background you're from we'd love to connect with you - be the change you want to see in the world!

National Literacy Trust in Middlesbrough asked us to paint this Storytelling BookBench with people at the Storytelling Festival that took place this summer.
Here's a closer look at the front. If you took part, can you spot your design? I'll share the back pictures in another post.
Every picture tells a story. The designs were created by children and adults from the community, with each one inspired by our town, something about the person who created it, or a heritage tale that was meaningful to them. It was fascinating to hear the stories and ideas behind everyone’s designs and see how they came together to create one big community artwork.

📚 Our Middlesbrough Storytelling BookBench has arrived in Centre Square! 🎉
At this summer’s Storytelling Festival, we invited people to create a design reflecting what living in Middlesbrough means to them — their places, memories, people and stories.
Those designs have now been brought together on our wonderful book bench, creating a colourful celebration of Middlesbrough and the people who call it home. ❤️
The bench will now have a permanent place in Centre Square, where its stories can be seen, shared and enjoyed by the community for many years to come.
A huge thank you to Middlesbrough Council for supporting us to make this project happen, and to Sarah Falconer at FreeStyle Community Projects for bringing her creative talents to the project and helping us turn the community’s ideas into such a wonderful piece of art.
We hope everyone who contributed feels proud to see their story become part of Middlesbrough! 📖✨

Families had a wonderful time last Saturday - check out what everyone created 🙂
Thank you to those who informed us about the planned protests close to our venue last week. We assessed the risks and discussed things with the right people to be able to open safety.
