Vin Garbutt was an award winning folk singer-songwriter from Teesside, England. His career spanned over 47 years of constant world wide touring (1969-2017), producing 15 studio albums, a songbook and a documentary film (Teesside Troubadour). His songs were inspired by the folk tradition at the beginning of his career, evolving over his career into gritty social comment and life observations. He is renowned for his hilarious song introductions and incredible live performances, winning the BBC Radio 2 Folk Award for Best Live Act in 2001. He was the funniest man on the folk scene for more than 40 years, but for Vin Garbutt and his legion of fans, the music always came first. Nominee for BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards "Best Folk Singer" Award 2001. Nominee for BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards "Best Live Act" Award 2007. Honorary Degree of Master of Arts awarded to Vin by Teesside University in 2001 for his music and his services to the arts and culture of the North East of England.

Myself and the family have been completely amazed at the hundreds of messages that we have received over the weekend. I have read every single one and am doing my best to show a response so that you know that. I have felt comforted and uplifted to read your stories and memories and sometimes just a little note to say yeah we loved him! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to be there for us and most importantly for continuing to play Vin’s music and to keep listening to his incredible lyrics. Thank you so much from Pat, Louis, Tim, Katie, Emma and all the family. Love to you all. x

Mike McGrother and the Wilson Family were the special guests of Pete Davies who put on a brilliant night at Toft House, The Home Of Unpopular Music last night. Thanks Mike for singing Vin’s Valley Of Tees. Vin was mentioned by every person that took to the stage and got a big cheer every time. It’s so nice that he is still included in our collective musical memories. Thanks Pete for putting the night together and for your great set of self penned songs.

We can’t quite believe it! This collection of songs has taken a long time to finally be in a position to share with the world. Some of them started a decade ago. Recording them was an amazing experience. We spent hours in our little practice room mixing these tracks together as a band. We’ll forever be in awe of Greg’s infinite patience while we spent days agonising over the smallest of details that definitely nobody will notice. It was a great learning experience if not a bit tortuous for us at times, but we can definitely say that each song was given a lot of TLC. We are proud of it and each other. We love making music together. We hope you like it.
