Ground engineering can be inherently invasive, but the right planning, design and delivery approach can protect sensitive environments - and even help create the conditions for nature to recover.

In our latest article, Suttle Piling explores how we supported the Arne Moors wetland project in Purbeck, where a temporary sheet pile cofferdam created a safe, dry work area for the Furzebrook Culvert.

Careful temporary-works design, marine-friendly bio-oils, off-site refuelling and a responsive groundwater-control solution helped protect this sensitive site while enabling essential water-management infrastructure to be built.

The wider scheme will create new intertidal, freshwater and saline-lagoon habitats while helping reduce flood risk around Poole Harbour.

⚽ We're proud to support local sport teams in the communities where we work.

Suttle Piling is delighted to be sponsoring Dexter's Panthers for another season in Dorset whilst Suttle Projects are proud to be supporting Ashford United’s youth team in Kent.

With operational bases across the region, including Dorset, Bristol and Kent, it's important to us that we give something back to the communities that support our operations. Supporting local sports teams and particularly youth sport is a great way for us to play our part.

👏🏻 Youth football clubs bring communities together, encourage teamwork and help young players build confidence, develop their skills and enjoy the game.

We're pleased to support both Dexter's Panthers and Ashford United Youth this season, and wish all the players, coaches and families the very best of luck for the season ahead!

Rapid mobilisation, practical in-house design and controlled delivery helped Suttle Piling protect critical infrastructure at the Avanti LPG Gas Storage Facility in Coolham, West Sussex.

Working for CJ Thorne, our team installed a sheet pile retaining wall to prevent further stream erosion beneath an existing car park and provide a long-term solution for reinstatement. When the originally specified AU16 sheet-pile profile was unavailable in the UK, our in-house designers promptly recommended an L616 alternative, protecting the delivery programme.

Pre-drilling also allowed the piles to reach their required depth while reducing noise and vibration at the live facility, with all work delivered in line with Environment Agency licence requirements.

Early contractor involvement can turn a complex ground engineering challenge into a simpler, more efficient build programme.

At Kingstanding Park in Tunbridge Wells, Suttle Piling worked with ISC Contracting to develop a space-efficient, vibrationless retaining-wall solution for a new 500,000 sq ft warehouse and industrial development.

Our ECI process considered variable ground conditions, constrained work areas and the need to protect nearby trees — leading to a kingpost retaining-wall design delivered using our in-house expertise and self-operated specialist plant.

Piling and foundation works should not be treated as a fixed package to procure once every design decision has already been made. Engaging a piling specialist early can reveal opportunities to remove risk, reduce cost and make the construction sequence more practical before issues reach site.

In our latest article, Suttle Piling explores how early contractor involvement, in-house technical expertise and detailed design reviews help identify the right piling method, configuration and delivery approach.

We also share examples where early analysis removed unnecessary specification costs and where rapid design changes kept a live project on programme.

Getting piling right at the start gives the whole project a stronger footing. It means the right method, the right plan and the right controls are in place before below-ground uncertainty has the chance to affect programme or cost.

In our latest article, Suttle Piling looks at the process behind efficient, controlled piling installation: from detailed tender and design reviews through to site planning, quality assurance and agile responses to unforeseen ground conditions.

It’s how we simplify ground engineering and help keep projects moving towards safe, on-time, and on-budget delivery.

Augered piling is one of the most adaptable methods in modern construction – and often the quietest way to get the job done.

In our latest article, Suttle Piling explores the flexibility of CFA and SFA piling, when each method is best used, and how they compare with rotary bored piling. We also look at real project applications like Okehampton, where different augered methods were used on the same scheme to meet operational constraints and programme needs.

Sheet piling is often the fastest way to make unstable ground safe – whether you’re dealing with deep excavations, emergency embankment stabilisation or coastal erosion.

In our latest article, Suttle Piling explains how sheet piling works, where it’s best suited, and the different installation options available depending on ground conditions, access and sensitivity to noise and vibration.

Real projects from rail embankments to seawalls and promenades – show how the team uses their equipment range and in-house expertise to match the method to each situation.

King post retaining walls are often the quiet, space-efficient answer to tricky retaining challenges.

In our latest article, Suttle Piling explains how king post retaining walls provide a versatile, cost-effective option for permanent and temporary works, especially where space is tight and disruption must be kept to a minimum.

From low-noise, low-vibration installations at sensitive sites like Alumhurst Road Hospital, to large-scale storage solutions at Sevington Depot - real projects show how different piling methods and infill options can be tailored to suit ground conditions, appearance and operational needs.
