This looks really good for those of you in the Cheshire area!
On 9/11 every plane in the sky was instructed to immediately land at the nearest airport. And those that were transatlantic were instructed to land at either Gander or St John’s, Newfoundland.
38 Planes landed at Gander, and over 7000 people disembarked into a population of just 9000. Gander had a particularly large area to land because it was a refuelling station during WW2. The people on those planes were from all over the world, and the hospitality and kindness they received from this little town became legendary forming a lifelong bond. This musical Come From Away is about that.
