Guernsey's most successful theatrical & dance school. GATE was founded in February 2003 by West End professionals Brian and Catherine Webster.
It all began with a workshop for local children based on the musical Grease. Brain and Catherine both played parts in the West End version so along with fellow cast member Amanda Sim, they offered young islanders an opportunity that had not been offered before. They took 50 students, had 50 students on the waiting lists and it was a resounding success. They realised from this that there was an opportunity to pass on their exclusive knowledge and experience as there were no other professionals on the Island. Brian and Catherine between them clocked up 24 years working with great stars in the West End and extensively trained in Ballet, Tap, Modern, Jazz, Drama and singing at Elmhurst Ballet School, West Street Ballet School and Guildford School of Acting. From this they wanted to run classes that would not just cover every genre neccessary to become a professional, but also to give confidence, life skills and enjoyment to their students. GATE officially opened it's doors on April 27th 2003 and the school has become the most successful on the Island.

🌟 STUDENT SUCCESS 🌟
It’s always so sad to say goodbye to our leavers, and this year with such a big, amazing group of them where so many of them have trained with us since tots and made such a big impact to the school, we really don’t want to let them go. But we are wishing them all the very best with their next life adventures, whether that’s full time work, university, traveling or continuing their training- we will miss you all! Your GATE family will always be here waiting for your return whether that’s to take a class, watch a show or pop in for a catch up!
We also couldn’t be prouder of our incredible students who are taking the next exciting step in their dance and theatre journeys! And this year, amazingly, we have quite a few! 🥰
After years of hard work, dedication and passion, these talented performers are heading off to continue their training at some of the UK’s leading performing arts institutions. Congratulations to each and every one of you – your futures are so bright, and we can’t wait to see all you achieve.
🌟 Eliza – Offers from Performers College, Italia Conti, RH Cast, Emil Dale Academy and Laine Theatre Arts. She has chosen Laine Theatre Arts to continue her training!
🌟 Lauren – Offers from Performers College, Morea and RH Cast. She has chosen RH Cast to continue her training!
🌟 Tilly – Offers from Performers College and the University of Chichester to study Acting for Film. She has chosen the University of Chichester to continue her training!
🌟 Milly – Offer from Performers College and a waitlist place at Laine Theatre Arts. She will be joining Performers College Essex to continue her training!
🌟 Tim – He’ll be continuing his training at Performers College Brighton.
Go and show them what you’re made of, we are so proud to have been the first step in your theatre journeys, we’ll be cheering you on every step of the way! 💫

🌟 A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS TO LOTTIE! 🌟
We are incredibly proud to celebrate the wonderful achievement of our student Lottie Colmer, who has been invited to join the prestigious Emerging Talent Programme at Italia Conti, starting in September 2026. 💫
Lottie has been awarded a scholarship place on this exceptional programme following her outstanding performance at the Italia Conti West End Summer Workshop.
The Emerging Talent Programme is an elite training opportunity designed to nurture and develop outstanding young performers. Through monthly training with leading UK tutors and creative professionals, students have the opportunity to further refine their technique, expand their skills, build industry connections and prepare themselves for the professional performing arts world.
We are so proud of Lottie for this fantastic recognition of her hard work, dedication and talent. 💜🌟

🌟 WORKSHOP ROUND-UP 🌟
Our 46th workshop has come to an end, and what an incredible week it has been!
For the past 23 years, we’ve been bringing West End guest teachers to the island twice a year, and it never ceases to amaze us how much our students achieve. After just five mornings of training, the standard of the showcase is always outstanding, and this year was no exception.
Over the years, many of our guest teachers have gone on to teach our students at vocational colleges and even audition them for professional roles. Looking back, we’re so grateful that Catherine and Brian decided to hang up their West End performing shoes and begin this incredible workshop journey all those years ago.
A huge thank you to our guest teacher, David McIntosh, who was truly inspirational and delivered an outstanding workshop. His impressive West End credits include Cats, Oklahoma!, We Will Rock You, Beauty and the Beast, Mary Poppins, Hairspray, and many more, as a performer, Dance Captain, and Resident Choreographer. We hope to welcome him back again very soon!
Congratulations to all of our students who made us incredibly proud all week and absolutely smashed the super hard shows, choreography and vocals. We hope you had the best time, we certainly did! 💜🌟

🌟 WORKSHOP FUN 🌟
An incredible first 3 days of our workshop, and an incredible 3 groups of students!
Our workshops are all about learning new things, giving it your all and having fun, and they’re certainly doing just that. We are having the best time and we are so impressed with everyone 🤩💜
We have the incredible David McIntosh over teaching our seniors this week and his experience and expertise is second to none. We are so lucky to have him!
