GoldBod Targets US$1.4 Billion in Foreign Exchange Generation for September 2026
The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) is targeting US$1.4 billion in foreign exchange generation in September 2026 as it adopts a new collaborative financing model to support its gold aggregation operations within Ghana’s artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) sector.
The projected figure forms part of GoldBod’s broader efforts to increase foreign exchange mobilisation from Ghana’s gold resources while supporting stability in the foreign exchange market and strengthening the country’s international reserves.
The development was reported by WoezorNews and has been cross-checked by the KOFI360NEWSGH news desk against reliable sources, including official publications from the Ghana Gold Board.
Under the new financing arrangement, US$700 million of the projected September foreign exchange generation is expected to be made available to commercial banks through spot sales and funded forward arrangements.
Another US$700 million could be channelled to the Bank of Ghana to support reserve accumulation under the Ghana Accelerated National Reserve Accumulation Policy (GANRAP).
The September target follows GoldBod’s reported performance in August 2026, when the institution generated approximately US$1.315 billion in foreign exchange.
Of that amount, about US$668.21 million was sold directly to commercial banks, while approximately US$646.59 million was made available to the Bank of Ghana for reserve accumulation.
The figures indicate the growing role of GoldBod in Ghana’s foreign exchange mobilisation strategy and the government’s broader efforts to use the country’s gold resources to strengthen the economy.
GoldBod has also been transitioning away from its previous arrangement as a buying agent for the Bank of Ghana.
Under its emerging financing model, the Gold Board is seeking to raise financing directly through commercial banks and other financial market participants to support its gold aggregation activities.
GoldBod’s official publications indicate that the institution successfully raised US$75 million directly from commercial banks on August 3, 2026, describing the transaction as an important test of its new market-based financing approach.
The Board has further stated that it no longer relies on funds from the Bank of Ghana to purchase gold on its behalf and is instead moving towards a self-funded model for gold aggregation, export and reserve accumulation.
The financing model is also linked to GoldBod’s wider objective of strengthening Ghana’s position in the global gold value chain while improving the structure and formalisation of the artisanal and small-scale mining sector.
GoldBod has outlined an ASM Formalisation and Financing Support Programme, designed to support licensed small-scale miners through regulatory compliance, capacity building, equipment financing and other mining-related services.
The GoldBod Act, 2025 (Act 1140) also provides a framework for supporting licensed small-scale miners, responsible mining practices, equipment financing and the formalisation of the sector.
If achieved, the US$1.4 billion September target would represent another significant contribution to Ghana’s foreign exchange mobilisation and reserve accumulation efforts.
However, the US$1.4 billion remains a September target or projection and should not be interpreted as foreign exchange already generated.
KOFI360NEWSGH reviewed the report attributed to WoezorNews and cross-checked the key information against reliable media reports and official publications from the Ghana Gold Board.
The news desk also confirmed GoldBod’s recent move towards direct commercial-bank financing and its broader foreign exchange mobilisation strategy.
KOFI360NEWSGH therefore presents the US$1.4 billion figure as a projected September 2026 target, pending the actual performance for the month.
