What do younger and older adults think of a cognitive test in virtual reality?
In GERIATRIC’s user study, both groups rated TMT-VR positively for usability, user experience and acceptability, with low levels of cybersickness.
These experiences matter when developing technology that people are willing and able to use.

How do we make virtual reality useful for understanding thinking across adulthood?
Our new podcast explores findings from the GERIATRIC project, from how people interact with VR to how younger and older adults experience a cognitive test inside a headset.
The Trail Making Test in Virtual Reality (TMT-VR) lets seated participants select targets by turning their head. The research asks how performance relates to age, how the test compares with its paper counterpart, and whether people find it easy and comfortable to use.

Connecting the dots takes on a new dimension in virtual reality. 🥽
Our GERIATRIC video introduces TMT-VR, an adaptation of the familiar Trail Making Test. Participants remain seated and select numbers and letters by turning their head, without using hand-held controllers.
Across studies involving adults aged 19–90, the project examines age-related differences in performance, the information captured by wrong selections, and how people experience the test. Younger and older participants rated its usability and acceptability positively.
