Why does autonomy matter in equine-assisted activities?

Inclusion does not mean forcing everyone to participate in the same way. Each participant has different needs, limits, rhythms, and forms of communication.

In more inclusive approaches, the goal is not “normalisation,” but creating spaces where the person can participate with greater safety, autonomy, and authenticity. This also means recognising and respecting the horse as a sentient being with its own limits and needs.

Human-horse relationships are built more effectively through trust and communication than through imposition.

TRAPROTRYDE continues developing methodologies based on inclusion, welfare, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Can sport support autonomy?

When we talk about autonomy, we often think about independence. But autonomy is also about having choices, participating actively, and having a voice in one's own journey.

In equine-assisted activities, the goal is not always to do more things, but to create opportunities for each person to participate in ways that are meaningful to them.
For this reason, autonomy is one of the themes that inspires the work of TRAPROTRYDE and the development of new tools and methodologies in this field.

• cortisol levels,
• heart-rate variability (HRV),

In approaches such as EA-Gymkhana, evaluation is not focused only on performance, but also on self-regulation and the quality of human-horse interaction.

International Institute.

TRAPROTRYDE brought together European partners from Spain, Italy, Greece and Slovakia in Athens to improve the future of equine-assisted activities.

By compiling best practices and developing an innovative training model, the project aims to help professionals more effectively support people with disabilities.

In addition to the four European partners, FICAE for Latin American countries and other European stakeholders ( Portugal, Turkey, Czech Republic and others) are also supporting the project, because innovation is strengthened when knowledge is shared across borders!
