A great example of what Cappamore Fire Service is already capable of when it comes to hosting and delivering training. π
Over the last few weeks weβve seen crews from across County Limerick coming to Cappamore for working-at-heights refresher training, making use of the facilities here and the experience of the local crew.
It gives a real sense of what could be possible on a larger scale. Cllr Martin Ryan has brought forward proposals for Cappamore to develop further as a dedicated firefighter training centre of excellence, building on the investment already taking place at the station.
A facility of that scale could see firefighters coming to Cappamore from across the county, the Mid-West and potentially further afield for specialist training.
Whatever comes next, it is great to see Cappamore already being used as a place where crews can come together, train and share skills.
And thereβs no doubt about one thing β with crews regularly coming through the village for training, Cappamore would be hopping. ππ

π§Ί Textile Banks Update
People may have noticed that the textile banks at local bring bank sites have gone βAWOLβ recently.
Limerick City and County Council has now confirmed that, in July 2026, it decided to remove textile banks from public bring bank sites across the county because of ongoing problems with illegal dumping. Private textile banks located on public lands are also being removed.
The Council says there has been a significant reduction in dumping complaints since the banks were taken away.
You can still recycle or donate unwanted clothing and textiles through a number of options:
β’ Civic Amenity Sites in Mungret, Newcastle West and Kilmallock
β’ Local charity shops for clean clothes and household textiles
β’ The MyWaste Textile Locator Map: https://textilesmap.mywaste.ie/
β’ In-store return schemes at H&M, Primark and TK Maxx
β’ Oxfam Ireland / An Post PostBack service: https://www.oxfamireland.org/postback-donate-by-post-for-free
β’ Online resale and donation platforms
β’ Local community initiatives such as clothes swaps, school Halloween costume swaps and Christmas jumper exchanges
It is a pity to lose a useful local recycling service, but the level of dumping around these sites had become a serious problem according to the Council.
If we hear of any new local textile recycling options becoming available in Cappamore, weβll share them here.

π A potentially huge development for Cappamore.
Cappamore Development Association fully supports the proposal to develop a National Centre of Excellence for firefighter training here in Cappamore.
The proposal, estimated at β¬10 million, would build on the major investment already taking place at Cappamore Fire Station and could see a dedicated regional and national training facility developed in the village.
If this proposal progresses through the various stages, it would be a major development for Cappamore and the wider East Limerick area. As well as providing an important training resource for the fire service, it would bring people from across the country into Cappamore and provide a welcome boost for local shops, cafΓ©s, restaurants and other businesses.
We want to thank all of the councillors who have expressed their backing for the proposal Martin RyanGregory Conway - Fine Gael Local Election Candidate 2024Noreen StokesCllr PJ Carey, and in particular Cllr Martin Ryan for bringing the motion forward on behalf of the Cappamore retained fire crew, and Cllr Greg Conway for his work and support in helping to move the proposal forward.
There is obviously a considerable amount of work still to be done, including examining the site, funding and the wider development of the proposal, but it is an exciting opportunity for Cappamore and one that has the full backing of Cappamore Development Association.
Well done to the members of Cappamore Fire Station who have put the idea forward. We look forward to seeing how the proposal develops.
