Quick look into one of my latest projects. Making some art for some music I'm hopefully writting with a friend of mine. Just wanted to share some of the process. Colour refrences and adding symbols into my work. Anti Ai community based free software in process.

I didn't win, but better luck next year. Still happy to have tried. Now I can share. This is my entry for the Irish Sock Society Competition 2026.
50 words long inspiration behind the design:
This sock design was created with the intention to provide a visual representation of the common Irish phrase ‘AH’ SURE LOOK!’ Ah’ sure look and it’s variants act as a natural coping mechanism in Irish culture, turning a negative situation into a moment of acceptance. ‘It is what it is’.

Created a custom font called 'The Dirty Protest Font', I will be using it for my art projects going forward. I have used 'Illustrator' adobe software + 'Calligraphr' free online software to take my pen/indian ink sketches from paper to being TTF and OTF (Font Files). OTF and TTF files for example are the background files that allow you to type out your CV in Microsoft Office.
A TTF stands for TrueType Font and an OTF stands for Open Type Font. By creating a custom font it makes your digital work distinct from others. Plus it gets around any copywrite concerns when using other installs/plugins from sites like 1001Fonts and Da Font.
Don't get me wrong this took a lot of work to create my custom font. (101Glyphs), thats 101 ink sketches drawn, edited, and eventually processed. About a month's work, but it's possible. A fun project with a goal to add to my animation practice, make my vids stand out and to not sweat the small text in these copywrite license agreements.
The take away from this project: Calligraphr is a free online font making software that works up to 60 Glyphs(free) only 10euro for one month of unlimited Glyphs. (For me it was worth it). Yes you can take your hand drawn images/text from paper to digital (would you want to do it the hard way in 2026?) Adobe illustrator come on you dinosaur be cheaper. In a world now taken over with Ai you only have the old school artists that want you.
Adobe software for cost of subscription is less than ideal these days. Subscription requests have slowly destroyed the independent digital creators out there. I will now be using Krita to replace Adobe photoshop and Illustrator. Blender will now be used to replace Premier pro and After effects. Blender and Krita are free open source programs with healthy communities attached. Congrats you greedy Adobe software developers you just got boycotted.
