We enjoyed some mindful colouring and painting, plenty of good conversation, and of course, some treats to keep us going! 🥰

A big thank you to everyone who joined us. We hope you had as much fun as we did and we can’t wait to see you at the next one!

What can the records we leave behind tell us about a life? Join South Dublin County Council Archivist Carla Soden as she explores how archives are collected, interpreted and used to piece together stories from the past. Drawing on the archives of Woodville House and the Scott family, Carla will uncover the life of Marjorie Ruth Carden through the records that remain.

This talk offers a fascinating look at the work of an archivist and how letters, documents and other records can help us understand individual lives, local history and the communities that came before us.

What a fantastic National Library Open Day at Tallaght Library!

Today, our library was buzzing with activities from morning to afternoon, and it was wonderful to see so many people of all ages enjoying everything on offer.

We welcomed a great crowd to our Blackout Poetry Workshop, enjoyed a lively Traditional Music Session, were amazed by Doctor Brain's Fun-Believable Circus & Science Show, and enjoyed our Yoruba Storytime with Crafts.

As if that wasn't enough, every corner of the library was alive with families and friends taking part in a wide range of activities, including family pool time, table tennis, giant chess, reading, games, creativity, and much more.

A special highlight was our Walking Tour of Tallaght with Tomás Maher, which drew an amazing turnout as participants explored the ancient and modern history of Tallaght as part of Dublin Festival of History 2026.

Days like today remind us that libraries are so much more than places to borrow books. They are spaces where people come together to learn, create, play, connect, and belong.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended, our performers and facilitators, and all the staff who helped make the day such a success.

📸Enjoy some highlights from today's events!

Research shows that getting a child their own library card can be the first step towards becoming a lifelong reader.

One little library card. A lifetime of reading. Isn’t that amazing?
