Boxing Therapy
Boxing Therapy is the combination of non- competitive boxing training with Empirically Based Therapy practices.
It is a new breed of therapy that engages the body and mind
to harness resilience and inner strengths.
๐ฅ What do you actually learn when you receive the full Boxing Therapy Certification?
Hi, I'm Raizel, Director of Education here at Boxing Therapy, and your instructor for the 16-hour full certification course.
So let me tell you, the Boxing Therapy Certification is designed to give you all of the skills, strategies, and confidence you need to use the Boxing Therapy modality in your practice.
Together we learn all about exercise science and physiology, so we can safely bring our clients through this fitness experience, being that we are mental health professionals.
We also learn all about the physiology and how we interact with our nervous system. We underscore the brain-body connection by understanding on a physiological, biological level what that really means.
When I say working with the nervous system, we mean beginning with the nervous system.
From here, we move forward and learn all about the various therapeutic modalities that are embedded within the Boxing Therapy perspective.
Then we move forward learning how to practically apply the skills and theories we have been learning up to this point. We speak very, very specifically on how skills are performed and how strategies are applied into session, using boxing as the physical instrument.
We get to learn these skills and tie everything together with the perspective that we are founded in.
We understand and learn what is trauma. How does it affect that brain-body connected nervous system? How do we help clients reprocess and reintegrate after a traumatic experience? What are skills, strategies, and coping mechanisms we can offer to clients if they get triggered in session?
We bring it all together here in the Boxing Therapy section.
Everything we learn in training is reinforced through role-play sessions where, yes, you will get to start practicing your Boxing Therapy in our cohorts. We get to use worksheets and other activities to reinforce skills and even get to watch intake and 10th session role-play videos so that we can see Boxing Therapy applied and in action.

Who is the Boxing Therapy Certification for? ๐ฅ
If you've ever left a session thinking...
"My client understands everything intellectually... but they're still stuck."
This certification is for you.
It's for therapists who want more than another theory.

Whether you work with trauma, anxiety, ADHD, emotional regulation, teens, adults, or groups, Boxing Therapy offers a unique way to combine psychotherapy with movement and bilateral stimulation.
If you're ready to expand your clinical toolbox and bring a dynamic new modality into your practice, we'd love to have you join us.
Our next training is starting on October 11.

**What if movement could become part of your clinical toolkit?**
Therapy doesnโt always have to happen through words alone.
For some clients, movement can create a different pathway into regulation, body awareness, emotional expression, and resilience.
Boxing Therapy brings intentional movement into the therapeutic processโcombining evidence-informed clinical practice with boxing-based techniques to help clients engage with their nervous system in a new way.
Itโs not about being a boxer.
Itโs not about fitness.
And itโs not about teaching clients to fight.
Itโs about giving therapists another tool to meet clients where they areโand helping clients experience change not only cognitively, but physically and emotionally.

Can someone participate in Boxing Therapy if they have physical limitations?
Boxing Therapy is adaptable to you - All mobility abilities, fitness levels, injury history, or physical limitations are welcomed! Our therapists are client-centered and will adapt the modality to meet your body where it is.
Depression, fatigue, and other psychosomatic symptoms.
When youโre feeling depressed, totally fatigued, have chronic pain, or struggle with dissociation we use small amounts of intentional movement to connect with your body. Boxing Therapy can use short, manageable periods of movement to gently help your body reconnect with its energy and build tolerance for physical activation, without pushing beyond what feels manageable.
For concussions, injuries, chronic pain and post-surgery recovery:
With the guidance and clearance from your medical doctor, our therapists can modify any movement to accommodate your bodyโs needs. This could look like eliminating or minimizing impact, focusing on kicks instead of punches, working from a seated or supported position, or using completely different exercises to achieve similar therapeutic goals.
For Parkinsonโs and MS:
Some of our therapists have work with the Parkinsonโs and MS communities, known diseases which benefit from boxing-based movement as part of their wellness and symptom-management practices. Boxing Therapy extends care from just the physical management of disease to the emotional processing of that experience.
For dyspraxia and other neurodivergent physical challenges:
Boxing Therapy can be especially helpful for developing body awareness, not just emotional self awareness.
Many neurodivergent people experience challenges with proprioception, coordination, motor planning, or sensing their body in space. Boxing Therapy provides opportunities to practice these skills in an engaging, structured, and supportive way.

โจWhy Bilateral Stimulation Belongs in the Therapy Room
As our understanding of the brain and nervous system continues to evolve, more therapists are incorporating bilateral stimulation into their clinical practiceโand for good reason.
Bilateral stimulation is the rhythmic engagement of the left and right sides of the body to support nervous system regulation, emotional processing, and integration.
Research suggests that rhythmic left-right movement can help regulate the nervous system, making it easier to stay present, think clearly, and process difficult experiences. As the body shifts out of survival mode, clients are better able to move beyond intellectual understanding and begin integrating change on both a cognitive and physiological level.
Many clinicians are already familiar with bilateral stimulation through EMDR, where it is used with alternating eye movements, taps, or auditory tones. It also appears in approaches such as Brainspotting, and we naturally experience bilateral movement during activities like walking.
At Boxing Therapy, we intentionally incorporate bilateral stimulation through rhythmic combinations such as the jab-cross, while clients practice emotional regulation, process experiences, and strengthen new patterns of responding. Rather than movement being separate from therapy, it becomes an integral part of the therapeutic process.
