In a world where women have often not been recognized as independent individuals, the Islamic understanding of the distinct identities and dignity of both women and men represents a profound expression of humanity. From the time of Greek civilization and across many other cultures, women were often not regarded as individuals in their own right. Therefore, we need to move away from the approach of comparing or equating women with gold, jewels, or other precious objects, and instead recognize and respect women as independent human beings with their own individuality and dignity.

Islam views both women and men as independent individuals with their own dignity and identity. Neither is a slave or subordinate to another; all human beings are servants of Allah alone.
