Former Liberian Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor is believed to still be at the Gomez Institute of Medical Science in Congo Town, where she was hospitalized yesterday.

Taylor was taken to the hospital under a heavy state security presence, with a huge number of police officers still deployed at the facility as of this morning.

The former Vice President reportedly fell ill while in detention at the Liberia National Police headquarters in connection with the country’s record US$317 million co***ne investigation.

She has been charged with multiple offenses by the LNP and was expected to be forwarded to court yesterday before she fell ill.

Meanwhile, Cllr. Kabineh Mohammed Ja’neh, a lawyer representing Madam Taylor’s legal interests, says he has been denied access to his client at the hospital.

The Inspector General of Police ( IG) spearheaded the infamous Capitol Hill arson investigation, which led to charges against high-profile lawmakers. The case remains pending. The IG is currently leading a major transnational narcotics investigation in which, for the first time in our nation’s history, government actors— including a former VP—have been charged. The IG has become public enemy number one for doing his job.

The IG took an oath to enforce the law without fear or favor, and without mental reservation. Anything short of that would be tantamount to dereliction of duty.

The IG has a choice: succumb to public pressure and blackmail, or stay the course. He is undeterred. The good news is, the person who appointed him to this difficult task has complete and total confidence in his ability to stay the course.

History will judge all of us. Mr. IG, Godspeed! 🙏

First Group of Deportees Arrive in Liberia
MONROVIA, Liberia — Thursday, August 20, 2026: The first group of 20 deportees from the United States has arrived in Liberia today through the Roberts International Airport (RIA).

The Liberian Government had previously announced that the country is expected to receive approximately 1,200 individuals from the United States who had been seeking asylum there.

According to the government, the arrangement is intended to provide a safe haven for the asylum seekers while also strengthening relations and cooperation between Liberia and the United States.

The 20 individuals who arrived today constitute the first group under the arrangement.

Emmanuel Gonquoi of the Economic Freedom Fighters has sent an indirect message to former President George Weah after the former president announced plans to return to Liberia and mobilize supporters to resist the Boakai administration.

“Just as you will be mobilizing to stop the government from fighting drugs, I too will be mobilizing to resist such protests. Young people are dying from drugs, and we can’t afford to be political about this fight,” Gonquoi said.

Weah, in a statement, said he would “return to Liberia to rally the CDC along with all well-meaning Liberians to resist this tyrannical attempt to trample upon our burgeoning democracy,” using political and legal means guaranteed under the Constitution.

Weah Vows to Rally the Masses and Resist “Tyrannical Government” After VP Taylor’s Arrest on Drug‑Related Charges

At the Joint Security press briefing, the Ministry of Justice also announced charges in absentia against three alleged members and organizers of the cartel: Nikolai Ivancic and Mihovil Vrovac, both Croatian nationals, and Tara Zaderieko, a Ukrainian national.

The government says it will pursue domestic and international measures to locate and bring the three defendants before Liberian courts.

At this point in the drug debacle, we publicly draw the attention of the U.S. Government, the European Union and ECOWAS who are supinely watching as the shameless Government of President Joseph Boakai destroy the foundation of Liberian law. Today’s action against the former Vice President is yet another confirmation that Liberia has ultimately returned to its darkest past.

We cannot sit as Americans and Europeans indulge the Unity Party’s weaponization of political power against members of the Liberian opposition, in an attempt to undermine the viability of our post conflict democracy. How can the Government charge the former Vice President while compromised members of the national security architecture and some members of the First Family roam about freely? Where are the U.S. DEA officials in country who see all the evidence but are yet to apply the pressure in the Government? This is selective justice that should meet the strongest outrage of our partners. But so far all we see is “ diplomacy “ that is emboldening the Boakai-Koung tyranny !

To the CDC and members of the opposition, we cannot depend on the Americans and Europeans to fight for the opposition . As opposition we have to do the fighting ourselves . The UP is deliberate, intransigent and recalcitrant in its weaponization of power as a means toward retaining power. We have so far been miserable as a collective opposition. But that buck stops here!

The National Chairman of the CDC has been mandated to convene all partisans, leaders, CDC legislators , grassroots zonal leaders, youth and women leagues, party auxiliaries and all other structures to a meeting aimed at checking Liberia’s slide into lawless arbitrariness under this Reckless Mission.

The UP believes it can never win the CDC in a democratic election and is now aiming to “ destroy “ the CDC through subterfuges such as framing CDC officials into their UP’s drug morass. The refrain in their circle is “ if we UP are going down, let CDC go down with us.” This is a decided diabolical strategy that must be resisted.

We cannot wait for 2029. 2029 is NOW!!
