ITANAGAR, July 30: The United Arunachal Peopleโs Forum (UAPF) on Wednesday briefed the media at the Arunachal Press Club (APC) regarding its key public concerns, including the Smart Prepaid Meter system, de-reservation of forest areas within the Itanagar Capital Complex (ICC), alleged irregularities in the DariโChambang road project in Kra Daadi district, and its proposed mass rally scheduled for August 3.
Addressing reporters, UAPF leaders said the forum has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister seeking the immediate scrapping of the Smart Prepaid Meter system and the provision of free electricity up to 1,000 units for domestic consumers in Arunachal Pradesh. The forum alleged that the prepaid meter system has caused hardships to consumers due to frequent disconnections, additional charges and lack of transparency.
The forum also demanded early de-reservation or rationalisation of forest boundaries within the Capital Complex and adjoining areas, stating that many residents face difficulties in obtaining land possession certificates, building permissions and other essential documents because large portions of the area fall under reserved forest land.
On the DariโChambang road project, UAPF sought a high-level inquiry into the alleged misuse and misappropriation of more than โน121 crore sanctioned under various schemes for the construction of the road. The forum demanded a Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) investigation, forensic audit and action against those found responsible if irregularities are established.
The UAPF further announced a peaceful mass rally on August 3, 2026, from Akashdeep Complex to IG Park, Itanagar, to press for its demands. The forum stated that the rally has received permission from the Itanagar Capital Complex administration and appealed to citizens to participate peacefully and democratically.
UAPF leaders said the movement aims to protect the rights and interests of the people of Arunachal Pradesh and urged the government to address the issues raised in the memorandum at the earliest.
A protest was held in Itanagar by the Arunachal Pradesh Mahila Congress Committee against BJP MP Kangana Ranaut's alleged comments on student protesters. The group demanded that the remark be withdrawn and emphasized the need to protect the right to peaceful protest.
