⚖️ Delhi High Court Imposes Rs. 1 Lakh Cost on Lawyer for Attending Virtual Hearing from a Moving Car

Justice Om Prakash Shukla imposed Rs. 1 lakh as costs on an advocate who attended court proceedings while sitting in a moving vehicle. The Court observed that although virtual hearings offer convenience, they cannot come at the cost of professionalism, decorum, and the effective administration of justice.

The Court also referred to the Delhi High Court Electronic Evidence and Video Conferencing Rules, 2025, which discourage advocates from joining hearings from moving vehicles except in exceptional circumstances and with the Court’s permission.

Key Takeaways:
✔️ Virtual hearings require the same level of discipline as physical court proceedings.
✔️ Advocates should participate from a quiet and stable location.
✔️ Convenience cannot override courtroom decorum.
✔️ The Court imposed Rs. 1 lakh costs, payable to the Delhi High Court Legal Services Committee.
