Social media has become a major arena for debates over masculinity, feminism and gender equality, and recent research suggests that these online environments may be contributing to a growing perception of division between young men and women. Ipsos and Kingโs College London found that younger men and women show increasingly different attitudes on issues including feminism, masculinity and gender equality, while researchers have pointed to social media as a possible factor in amplifying this divide. Social media is also a dominant source of news for Gen Z, with 70% of young women and 62% of young men in a 30-country Ipsos survey identifying it as a main source of news. However, the evidence does not establish that social media directly causes men and women to hate each other. In fact, a 2025 UK Ipsos study found that 55% of the public believed young men and women have more in common than divides them. The bigger concern may therefore be that social media amplifies conflict, outrage and perceptions of division, rather than creating universal hatred between the sexes.

๐NEW YORK CITY ๐บ๐ธ | 24 SEPTEMBER 2026: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu arrived in New York for the United Nations General Assembly despite New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdaniโs earlier campaign promise to have him arrested if he entered the city. Mamdani had repeatedly said during his mayoral campaign that he would seek to enforce the International Criminal Courtโs arrest warrant against Netanyahu, but in July 2026 his administration acknowledged that NYC does not have independent legal authority to execute the ICC warrant. Netanyahu nevertheless travelled to New York and addressed the UN on September 24, while Mamdani later said the warrant should still be honored and criticized Netanyahuโs speech. The ICC issued the arrest warrant for Netanyahu in November 2024 over alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza, allegations Netanyahu and Israel reject. The much-discussed arrest did not take place, turning what began as a campaign promise into a major legal and political confrontation during UN week. Follow Universalbrief for more such content.
NETANYAHU INVOKES THE N**I HOLOCAUST IN DEFENCE OF ISRAEL ๐ฎ๐ฑ๐ฉ๐ช: During his September 26, 2025 address to the United Nations General Assembly, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected accusations that Israel was committing genocide in Gaza and argued that Israelโs calls for Palestinian civilians to evacuate areas of fighting were inconsistent with genocidal intent. He then invoked N**i Germany, asking: โDid the N**is ask the Jews to leave, kindly leave, go out? โฆ Did they say, โGet out so we can come inโ?โ Netanyahu used the comparison to argue that Israel was attempting to move civilians away from areas of military operations rather than deliberately targeting them. His remarks were part of a broader defence of Israelโs conduct in Gaza, while accusations of genocide and Israelโs rejection of those accusations remain highly contested internationally. DONALD TRUMP INVITES XI JINPING TO THE UNITED STATES ๐บ๐ธ๐จ๐ณ: At President Donald Trumpโs invitation, Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in Washington on September 23, 2026, for a three-day state visit, accompanied by his wife, Peng Liyuan. Trump personally welcomed Xi and Peng at Joint Base Andrews, an unusually high-profile reception, before the formal White House ceremonies scheduled for September 24, including a military review, bilateral talks and a state dinner hosted by Trump and First Lady Melania Trump. The visit comes four months after Trumpโs trip to China and is focused on managing the complex U.S.-China relationship, with trade, tariffs, rare-earth minerals, artificial intelligence, Taiwan and broader strategic stability among the major issues surrounding the talks. The White House says the visit is Xiโs first state visit to Washington in more than a decade, while China describes the reciprocal meetings as significant for dialogue, cooperation and managing differences between the two powers. ๐บ๐ธ USA ร ๐จ๐ณ CHINA: TWO RIVAL SUPERPOWERS, ONE HIGH-STAKES STATE VISIT. COLD WAR ERA โ 1983โ1986 ๐บ๐ธโข๏ธ๐บ๐ธ๐ท๐บ: During the Cold War, particularly during the renewed tensions of the early and mid-1980s, Soviet poster art repeatedly focused on the dangers of nuclear weapons, the arms race and the possibility of a catastrophic global conflict. โNuclear War Cannot Be Allowed!โ (1983) presented nuclear war as an existential threat, reflecting the intense โwar scareโ atmosphere of 1983; โWorld War IIIโ (1983) similarly warned of the consequences of another global conflict in the nuclear age. โThere Is No Other Home!โ (1986) used Earth itself as the central symbol, emphasizing humanityโs shared and vulnerable home, while Mark Abramovโs โLetโs All Together Stop the Nuclear Threat!โ (1986) called for collective action against the nuclear danger. โPeace Will Prevail!โ (1986) likewise belonged to this broader wave of Soviet peace-themed visual messaging. Together, these posters show how Soviet artists and state-linked cultural campaigns used dramatic imagery to address nuclear weapons, disarmament, militarization and fears of World War III during the final decade of the Cold War. They were also part of Soviet political messaging and should therefore be understood as Cold War propaganda as well as anti-war art, rather than treated simply as neutral historical documentation. 22 SEPTEMBER 2026 ๐ซ๐ท๐ต๐ธ MACRON CALLS OUT THE GAZA CRISIS AT THE UNITED NATIONS: French President Emmanuel Macron used his final UN General Assembly speech to sharply challenge claims that peace had been achieved in Gaza, asking, โWhat credibility do we have if we continue to remain inactive in the face of Gaza?โ and, โAre we simply to stand by and watch this spectacle that should shame us all?โ Macron argued that despite claims of a diplomatic breakthrough, humanitarian access had not been restored and said the situation in Gaza remained unacceptable. He also condemned continuing violations and settler violence in the occupied West Bank, while defending Franceโs recognition of a Palestinian state and calling for a two-state solution. Importantly, Macron did not explicitly use the word โgenocideโ in the quoted portion of this UN speech, so the headline should not present that specific word as a direct Macron quote. The UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry had separately concluded in 2025 that Israel had committed genocide in Gaza, a finding Israel rejects. ๐ซ๐ท๐ต๐ธ โARE WE SIMPLY TO STAND BY AND WATCH?โ Follow Universalbrief for more such content.
The footage from Odesa offers a disturbing look at the coercive side of Ukraineโs wartime mobilization system, with a draft-age man apparently being forcibly pulled from a vehicle while a woman desperately tries to hold onto him. This is not an isolated controversy: Ukraineโs own State Bureau of Investigation says it documented 15 incidents of alleged violence involving 10 TCC servicemen in Odesa region, including beatings, the use of tear gas and forcibly taking civilians to recruitment centers. In a separate Odesa case, the SBI accused TCC personnel of unlawful detention and violence against civilians, with the number of suspects reaching 13. (State Register of Ukraine) Under President Volodymyr Zelenskyyโs government, Ukraine continues to enforce wartime mobilization, but these investigations raise serious questions about whether the system is being enforced through intimidation and coercion rather than respect for civilian rights. The issue is no longer simply about recruiting soldiers for a war; it is also about what happens when the state uses force against its own citizens in the process. 23 SEPTEMBER 2026 ๐ท๐บ๐จ๐บ๐ฆ RUSSIA STRIKES BACK AT UKRAINE AFTER THE MOSCOW DRONE ATTACK: After Ukraine carried out its largest reported combined drone-and-missile strike against the Moscow region on September 19โ20, Russia responded with another wave of attacks across Ukraine, including strikes involving drones and missiles against multiple regions. Ukrainian authorities reported impacts on residential, commercial and critical infrastructure, while Russia has continued to intensify its long-range aerial campaign. The escalation follows Ukraineโs reported attack involving more than 1,600 drones intercepted by Russian authorities, including around 450 directed toward Moscow, with the Moscow oil refinery among the facilities damaged. Both sides have increasingly targeted infrastructure far from the front line, raising concerns about further escalation as the war enters another intense phase. ๐ท๐บ RUSSIA ๐ท๐บ โ UKRAINE ๐บ๐ฆ โ THE DRONE WAR IS ESCALATING DEEP BEHIND THE FRONT LINE. SIX YEARS AFTER BEING SHOT, RONALD REAGAN HEARD A BALLOON POP DURING A SPEECH AND JOKED, โMISSED ME.โ ๐บ๐ธ๐: On June 12, 1987, U.S. President Ronald Reagan was speaking at Tempelhof U.S. Air Base in West Berlin during celebrations marking Berlinโs 750th anniversary when one of thousands of red, white and blue balloons suddenly popped, producing a sound that could resemble a gunshot. Reagan had survived an assassination attempt in March 1981, so the moment carried an obvious connection to the earlier attack, but he immediately responded with the now-famous line, โMissed me,โ before continuing his speech as the crowd applauded and cheered. The official Reagan Library transcript records the interruption and his remark, while contemporary reporting from UPI confirmed that the sound came from a balloon during the celebrations. A split-second moment that became one of Reaganโs most remembered examples of humor under pressure. Follow Universalbrief for more such content.
