The 1990s gave India a thriving indie-pop wave, with artists like Lucky Ali, Alisha Chinai, Euphoria and Daler Mehndi finding audiences beyond Bollywood.
Then the scene faded as Bollywood dominated music and the industry changed. But indie pop never disappeared. Today, YouTube, Instagram and streaming platforms are giving independent and regional artists a new route to listeners.
