لەکاتێکدا وەرزشی بەردەوانی بۆ شاخەکانی کوردستان تاڕادەیەک نوێیە، بەڵام چیاکان خۆیان بۆمان ئاشنان.

بەردەوانی بۆ ژیلیا وەک گەڕانەوەیە بۆ شوێنێکی ئاشنا، ڕەگ و ڕیشەی ئەو هەمیشە لەو کەلەبەرانەدایە کە بۆ سەرکەوتن دەستیان پێوە دەگرێت. ئەو هەمیشە دەڵێت: ”کاتێک بەردەوانی دەکەم، بیرکردنەوە لە هەر شتێکی تر ئەستەم دەبێت. زۆر سەرقاڵ دەبم بەوەی قاچەکانم لە کوێ دابنێم، کڵۆمی داهاتوو لەکوێ گیر بکەم و چۆن بەسەر شڵەژانی لەناکاوی ترسدا زاڵ ببم. ئەم نوقمبوونە قووڵەی ناو ساتەوەختی ئێستا، هێواش هێواش ئارامیی بەو جەنجاڵییە بەخشی کە لە دوای کۆچکردنمەوە لە سەرمدا هەبوو. بۆ چەند خولەکێک لە یەک کاتدا، هیچ شتێکی تر بوونی نەدەما جگە لەو ئاستەنگەی لە بەردەممدا بوو.“ هەر بەم شێوەیە ژیلیا بووە یەکێک بەردەوانە ناسراوەکانی باشوور.

تازەترین چیرۆکی وێنەیی ئێستا لە ماڵپەڕەکەماندا بەردەستە، کە لەلایەن خودی ژیلیا عارف ”بزنۆکە“ نووسراوە. سەردانی بەستەری بایۆ بکەن بۆ خوێندنەوەی.

While the sport of rock climbing is relatively new to the Kurdistan highlands, the mountains themselves are deeply familiar to us.

Rock climbing feels like returning to a familiar place for Zhelia, her roots always lie in the cracks of the mountains she clutches on to for a climb. She always says “When I’m climbing, it becomes impossible to think of anything else. I become too busy wondering where to place my feet, how to latch my next hold, and how to cope with a sudden surge of fear. Being that deeply engaged in the present slowly began to ease the turmoil that had lived in my head since immigrating.

For a few minutes at a time, nothing else would exist, but the problem in front of me.” and that is how she has become one of the first widely known climbers in Başur.

گفتوگۆکەمان تیشکی خستە سەر دەرفەتەکانی هەماهەنگی لە داهاتوودا و بڵاوکردنەوەی وێنەکانی لەنێو ئەرشیڤەکەماندا. سوپاس و پێزانینی قووڵی ناوەندی کوردستان بۆ هونەر و کولتوور بۆ کەسایەتی وەک کاک کاردۆ پاڵنەرمانە بۆ ئەم هاوکارییە کاریگەرانە.

Writer and photographer, Kardo Kamo visited us at Dîrok house. He spoke about his collection of photos from his time as a Peshmarga and the collections he sourced from others over the years. Remarkably, he remembered the names and history behind every subject in his photographs.

Our discussions focused on potential future collaborations to further expand the photo collections in our archives. KCAC’s deep and lasting appreciation for the likes of Kak Kardo is what pushes us for these impactful partnerships.

We are excited to welcome Şermin Güven as our next Cihwar resident. Her work brings together satellite imagery, river mapping, and community narratives to create collective maps and visual storytelling through Water Dialogues. These projects examine how water—particularly rivers—fundamentally shapes ecological landscapes, connects to memory, and influences how communities relate to nature, their surroundings, and one another.

By bringing forward voices frequently overlooked in global climate crisis discussions, Şermin highlights critical ecological knowledge, lived experiences, and nuanced intergenerational and gendered connections to the land.

ئەمڕۆ لە خانەی دیرۆک میوانداریی تیمی کتێبخانەی گشتیی هەولێر (زەیتون) مان کرد. لەم دیدارەدا، کە درێژەپێدەری پەیوەندییە بەردەوامەکانمانە، گفتوگۆمان لەبارەی هەماهەنگییەکانی داهاتوو کرد و دیدگای خۆمان بۆ پرۆسەی دیجیتاڵکردن و پاراستنی کتێبەکانیان خستەڕوو.

ئەم کتێبخانەیە لە نێوان ساڵانی ٢٠٠٥ بۆ ٢٠٠٨ وەکو دیارییەک لەلایەن کۆریای باشوورەوە بۆ هەولێر و هەرێمی کوردستان بنیاتنراوە. دەکەوێتە ناو باخچەی سامي عەبدولڕەحمان و لە ساڵی ٢٠٢٢شدا لەلایەن پارێزگای هەولێرەوە نۆژەنکرایەوە. کتێبخانەکە زیاتر لە ٣٠٠ هەزار ناونیشانی کتێب بە زمانی کوردی و زمانەکانی تر، لەگەڵ ئەرشیفێکی دەوڵەمەندی ڕۆژنامە و گۆڤار لەخۆ دەگرێت.

بە هەوڵی دڵسۆزانەی کارمەندەکانی، کتێبخانەکە بووەتە ناوەندێکی زیندوو کە ڕۆژانە خزمەت بە قوتابیان، توێژەران و هاووڵاتییان دەکات و پشتگیری لە جووڵە ڕۆشنبیری و فکرییەکانی ناوچەکە دەکات.

Today, we welcomed the team from the Erbil Public Library – Zaytun to Dîrok House. As part of our ongoing association, we discussed future collaboration and presented our strategy for digitizing and preserving their books.

Zaytun Library was built between 2005 and 2008 by South Korea as a gift to Erbil and the Kurdistan Region. Located in Sami Abdul Rahman Park and was renovated in 2022 by the Erbil Governorate.
The library holds over 300,000 books in Kurdish and foreign languages, alongside many newspapers and magazines.

Well-maintained by dedicated staff, it serves students, researchers, and citizens daily, supporting cultural and intellectual endeavors across the region.

Did you know that renowned literary works like Homer's The Odyssey and Franz Kafka's The Metamorphosis were translated by women? Literary translation fundamentally shapes global perspectives on history, culture, and human emotion; female translators are vital. For centuries, the translation field was male-dominated, so world literature and women's voices were interpreted exclusively through men's perspective.
In honor of Women in Translation Month this August, we are proud to highlight Rojin Shekh Hamo, an accomplished Kurdish interpreter and translator from Serekaniye, West Kurdistan (Rojava). Her approach is shaped by Kurdish literature, which holds significance far beyond its words; she views translation with deep care and ethical dedication, thoughtfully conveying rich layers of cultural memory, political struggle, and shared imagination into target languages.
Her translated piece is a poem by Selîm Temo, “i have a friend” for the martyrs of Qaladiza.
Selîm is a poet, translator, and academic born in Mêrîna, a village near Batman, Northern Kurdistan.

‎بەشداری لە وۆرکشۆپی "پێشەکییەک بۆ ڕەخنەی هونەری" بکە بۆ باشترکردنی تواناکانت، گەڕان بەنێو مانای قووڵتر و پەرەپێدانی وانەوتارێکی گشتیی بونیادنراو. ئەم وۆرکشۆپە لەلایەن نەبەز سەمەد و ناوەندی کوردستان بۆ هونەر و کولتوور، لەنێو کارگەی کولتووری لە سلێمانی بەڕێوە دەبرێت. بەرنامەیەکی چڕی یەک هەفتەیی، سەرنج دەخاتە سەر ڕەخنەی هونەری، هەروەها پەرەپێدانی توانا و شارەزاییە پێویستەکانی ڕەخنەگرانی داهاتوو.
