The Ruby-topaz Hummingbird (Chrysolampis mosquitus) is an elusive species on Curaçao, often seen in gardens, and is rarer than the more common Blue-tailed Emerald. To spot one, try national parks like Christoffel or Shete Boka, or look in private gardens that may have feeders or flowering plants. The males are striking with a ruby-red crown, golden throat, and an orange tail with dark tips, while females are duller with a pale gray chest and a white-tipped tail.
