Saidia Community Initiative

Despite ongoing efforts to prevent Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in Kakuma, many cases still occur within our neighborhoods, often remaining unreported due to fear, stigma, and lack of information. Through the ECHO Project implemented in partnership with the Danish Refugee Council, Saidia Community Initiative took a bold step by facilitating a two-day community dialogue and sensitization session aimed at breaking the silence around GBV. Community members were empowered with knowledge on the different forms of GBV, available referral and reporting pathways, and the importance of seeking timely support. The sessions also highlighted psychosocial support services, encouraging survivors and affected individuals to access help in a safe and confidential manner.

Together, we are building informed, supportive, and protective communities where every voice matters and every survivor can seek help without fear.

Today, as we mark Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) Day, we proudly celebrate dignity, empowerment, and the importance of supporting the girl child through meaningful action. We are sincerely grateful to U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI) USCRI for standing with our learners through the generous donation of dignity kits. Today alone, we successfully distributed 70 dignity kits to girls and young women, with more distributions continuing in the coming days. The happiness, confidence, and hope expressed by the girls reminded us that access to menstrual hygiene support is not a luxury, but a necessity that allows girls to stay in school, protect their health, and live with dignity and self-esteem. Every kit distributed today carried a powerful message to the girls: you are valued, supported, and deserving of every opportunity to thrive.
Menstrual Hygiene Management is more than access to sanitary materials; it is about breaking stigma, promoting health education, protecting the dignity of girls, and creating safe and supportive environments where every girl can confidently pursue her dreams. Supporting girls during menstruation means investing in stronger communities, brighter futures, and equal opportunities for all. We deeply appreciate the well wishes, solidarity, and continued support from our partners and community members who continue to believe in empowering girls and young women. As we move forward, we remain hopeful and inspired for stronger partnerships and collaborations that will continue transforming lives, restoring dignity, and ensuring that no girl is left behind simply because of her menstrual cycle.

Day 3 concludes our 3-day session with RLOs on reproductive health advocacy. Today’s focus was on translating learning into action, strengthening practical negotiation plans, clarifying stakeholder engagement pathways, and reinforcing community-driven approaches.

As we wrap up, participants now move forward with clearer strategies and stronger tools to lead conversations within their communities.

We are proud to officially kick off our new project, “Strengthening Community-Based Practices on Case Management, GBV, and PSS,” with the generous support of the Union 🇪🇺.
The launch was marked by a meaningful courtesy visit and kickoff engagement, led by Sarah, the Project Manager, alongside our valued partners and consortium members. This moment was not just a beginning—it was a powerful reminder of what collaboration, shared vision, and commitment to community transformation can achieve.
As we embark on this one-year journey, we carry with us a deep sense of responsibility and purpose. The conversations, reflections, and learning shared during this kickoff have already set the tone: this is about strengthening systems, amplifying community voices, and ensuring that protection, care, and psychosocial support reach those who need it most.
This project is more than an initiative—it is a commitment to dignity, safety, and resilience within our communities. Together, we are building pathways for stronger case management, responsive GBV interventions, and holistic psychosocial support.
The work begins now—and we are ready.

Saidia Community initiative did it again!!!!

As one of our key activities under the -Reliance and Programme, Saidia Community Initiative proudly concluded the project with a powerful “Her Space” summit bringing together community learners, partners, and beneficiaries to share their journey and learning.

The summit was vibrant and inspiring, creating a safe platform to raise awareness, advocate, and amplify the voices of girls and young women. Through engaging performances drama, poetry, songs, and cultural dances participants boldly addressed issues of GBV, FGM, and period poverty.

With strong partner commitment and high participant excitement, the event was a true celebration of unity, voice, and action. Together, we continue to break the silence and empower every girl. 💜
