The practice of taking antibiotics whenever you or your child gets a slight cough is against good health practices and putting you to more harm than good.
Most coughs and colds are viral hence taking antibiotics only increase antimicrobial resistance thus they may not work in conditions that you will need them to work. Symptoms such as sore throat can be relieved easily by lozenges.
Coughs generally will heal itself in 10 days, and some may be due to allergy. Only take antibiotics if your doctor evaluates and sees the presence of exudates, bacteria is seen in a lab test or severe pain.
