SEKU HOSTS TRAINING ON FARMER-MANAGED NATURAL REGENERATION (FMNR)
South Eastern Kenya University (SEKU), in partnership with World Vision, hosted a two-day training for chiefs on Farmer-Managed Natural Regeneration (FMNR) from 8th to 9th October 2026. The training brought together local administrators to strengthen their understanding of FMNR and their role in promoting sustainable land restoration and environmental conservation within their communities.
The training focused on enhancing the capacity of chiefs to champion the adoption of Farmer-Managed Natural Regeneration, a practical approach to restoring degraded land by protecting and managing naturally regenerating trees and vegetation. Through knowledge sharing, interactive discussions and practical engagement, participants explored how local leadership can support environmental restoration, improve land productivity and encourage communities to embrace sustainable natural resource management practices.
The training further reinforces SEKUβs commitment to translating knowledge into practical solutions that address community needs, support environmental sustainability and advance sustainable development in the region.
Through strategic partnerships and community-centered initiatives, SEKU continues to play a vital role in promoting environmental stewardship and contributing to a greener, more sustainable future.

A New Chapter Begins for Our Medical Laboratory Sciences Students
On 1st October 2026, the department of medical Laboratory science held the white coat ceremony for its first year students.
As the students donned their lab coats, they were reminded that they have chosen a profession that lies at the very heart of healthcare. Behind every treatment decision, every diagnosis, and every successful patient outcome is the often unseen but critical work of the medical laboratory scientists.
The white coat garment is more than a uniform, it carries a deeper meaning. It symbolises responsibility, integrity, precision, professionalism and a commitment to serving humanity with compassion.
The ceremony was graced by the Chair of MLS department Dr. Lameck Ontweka, Dr. Hellen Onyango, Dr. Nathan Kiboi and SEKUMLSA officials.
To our first years, welcome to SEKUMLSA family. Your journey has officially began!
Wear the coat with pride. Carry the responsibility with integrity. Serve humanity with compassion.
