Beekeeping Tip: Beating the Wax Moth! 🐝✨

Wax moths target weak or empty hives, but a few quick steps will keep your apiary clean and thriving:

Scrape & Scorch: Remove webbing from empty boxes and lightly flame the wooden walls to kill hidden eggs.

Maintain Strong Colonies: Keep bee numbers high—active workers are the best defense against pests.

Reduce Extra Space: Remove unused frames so bees only defend space they can cover.

Store Frames Safely: Freeze empty combs for 24 hours to kill larvae, then store them in a well-ventilated, well-lit area.

Keep Apiary Clean: Clear away fallen wax scrapings and propolis debris around the hives.

Strong hive hygiene today means more honey tomorrow! 🍯🐝

Visited Eunice Muteti’s apiary today to tackle ant infestations and wax moth damage caused by low wooden stands, overgrown grass, and weak colonies.
Advice given:
Clear surrounding grass and elevate hives using metal stands with oil/grease traps to block ants.
Maintain strong colonies, remove old empty combs, and clean hives regularly to prevent wax moths.
She’s making the upgrades, and I’ll be back for a follow-up in two weeks! 🐝✨
