My name is Fiona Sims. A few years ago I recieved visitors in my home from one of the biggest slum areas in Nairobi, Kenya.

We deliver nutritious breakfasts to children, implement targeted interventions to address period poverty, and provide mentorship to girls in urban slums and rural communities to promote their empowerment and overall well-being. After they left, I wanted to do something that would make a difference to their lives and the lives of young women living in Mathare. Together with Maqulate Atieno Onyango

During the Vathorst Festival this week, students baked delicious cakes and arranged fantastic prizes for a raffle and a Wheel of Fortune.
Prizes were sponsored by Bruna, Vathorst, Etos, Trekpleister, Mooi d.r.o.p, UNIEK voor thuis, and De wereld van Pippa, all located in Baarn. Thank you!
And to all the students who took part: thank you for your hard work.
We raised €350 in donations during a cheerful, creative, and musical afternoon. Thanks to Vathorst College

With the theme, “Fathers: Guiding Strength and Building Futures,” we recognize and appreciate the invaluable contribution of fathers who support our cross-cutting programs and actively champion the growth and well-being of our girls and mentees. Your guidance, encouragement, and commitment play a vital role in shaping confident, resilient, and successful future generations.

As we commemorate the Day of the African Child under the theme, “Ensuring Universal Access to Water, Sanitation and Hygiene for Every Child in Africa,” we remain committed to improving children’s well-being through water tanks donated to our 24 partner schools and ongoing weekly mentorship sessions on health and hygiene. Together, we are creating healthier learning environments for children in both urban informal settlements and rural communities.

Through our cross-cutting lessons that engage both boys and girls, male teachers also participate as mentors, working alongside female mentors to coordinate and support the sessions. In addition, the incentives provided are distributed inclusively, encouraging all participants to continue promoting good hygiene practices among our children and fostering a culture of shared responsibility and well-being.
