🧠✨ Fun fact
Your brain remembers negative things faster than positive ones.
So that one annoying moment at school?
Sticks around.
And those 5 nice moments? They fade more quickly.
Not really fair, right?
Luckily, you can help your brain a little…
by consciously focusing on what went well.
💛 What went well today?
💛 What are you proud of?
💛 What worked (even if it was small)?
Small steps, big impact 🌱

Reading, listening, and imagining
Yesterday, I read “Guess what?” texts together with a student.
As we read, we drew what was being described in the text.
By turning words into images, so many things happened at once:
• better understanding of what was read
• sustained focus and attention
• active language processing
• and most importantly: enjoying reading
Reading is so much more than words on a page.
When language comes to life, understanding and confidence grow 💛

'Not' yet is also growth 🌱
Not being able to do something doesn’t mean stopping.
It means: you’re on your way.
By adding the word “yet”,
“I can’t do this” becomes
✨ “I can’t do this yet” ✨
And that simple shift creates space to practise, explore, and grow.
Every attempt counts.
Every mistake belongs.
Every step builds learning, confidence, and resilience.
This is how we grow a not-yet mindset,
where children dare to try, exactly as they are 💫

✨ Learning in small steps ✨
During a math activity, a student worked with concrete materials on subtraction problems.
He started with ten counters on a ten-frame and took five away.
Without counting again, he confidently said:
“It’s five.”
When asked how he knew, he explained that he could see there were five empty spaces left.
A beautiful example of how understanding grows when children learn math through structure and visual support.
By working with concrete materials, students develop not only math skills, but also confidence and number sense.
And that’s what makes learning sustainable. 💛
Small moments, big growth.

During dyslexia support, two students created these beautiful drawings to show how their brains work when they read. 💛
The first student drew a colourful “letter puzzle” 🌈.
When you follow the letters in the order of the rainbow, the sentence appears:
“This is how dyslexia works in my brain.”
She explained that the letters in her head sometimes “dance” a wonderful metaphor for how she experiences reading.
The second student made her drawing after we read a book together about how dyslexia works in the brain 🧠.
She wrote down everything she had learned so far: from recognising letters to how the brain practices finding patterns.
It’s incredible to see how much understanding and curiosity grows when children learn what is happening inside their own brain.
Every child develops their own way of making sense of learning.
And that creativity often says more than words. ✨
Small moments, big growth. 💛

Yesterday, during a support session, I was working with a student who has difficulty keeping his attention on the task.
After just a few minutes he was already wiggling on his chair, looking out the window, at his eraser, at me, at everything ...except the paper in front of him.
So I asked:“What do you need right now to get started again?” He looked at me and said, very honestly:
“Uhm… maybe I need to run some circles in my head first.”
We both laughed. That tiny moment of lightness gave him exactly enough space to reset. After a short focus exercise, he was back to work within a minute, with pride, not pressure. ✨
Children with ADHD don’t need “more discipline.”
They need more attunement:
🔹 movement
🔹 breaks
🔹 clarity
🔹 humour
🔹 small, achievable steps
Small moments, big growth. 💛

Our Anykind team in Sri Lanka is now fully updated, thanks to the knowledge shared by our Dutch BLH colleagues, who recently completed the training Dyscalculia & Math Difficulties.
They brought back practical strategies and new insights we can use in our daily support. ✨
Supporting children with math challenges begins with understanding, clarity and small, achievable steps.
Small steps, big growth. 💛

“That was there just now!”
Recently, I was reading with a student who sometimes reads a little too enthusiastically.
He adds words, guesses ahead, or accidentally makes something up.
After a few sentences, I could see his frustration growing.
When he added yet another extra word, I repeated it gently and asked:
“Where exactly do you see that word?”
He looked at the sentence… looked again… and then said:
“Well… it was there just now!”
We both burst out laughing.
And in that moment, that little release of humor and relaxation, his frustration melted away.
He continued reading with ease, without tension, and with joy. ✨
Growth often happens in these small, lighthearted moments.
That’s the beauty of our work. 💛
