"PSALMS OF CONSCIOUS MARTYRDOMโ Makes Chris Colgan's Top 10 list as an Album of the Year" "Most of you probably havenโt heard of this power-prog group from Sri Lanka (not one of the many other Stigmataโs out there), but theyโre one of the most interesting groups Iโve discovered in recent years. Much of Stigmataโs material makes some of the biggest prog bands sound like their songs were composed on a Casio childrenโs keyboard. If you want to hear something fresh and exciting from the power-prog underground, then Stigmata is what youโre looking for"

"Silent Chaos Serpentine" 7.5 out of 10, "Psalms of Conscious Martyrdom" 8.5 out of 10. "Metal is not exclusive to any one country or location, as any fan of the genre knows. Where the spirit and drive to play heavy and loud exists, metal will find a way. So it is with Sri Lankan group Stigmata, a powerful and unique group with the heart of metal deeply embedded in all five members. "

"The band formed in 1999, and built a loyal following for themselves around the Asian Metal scene. Ever since they formed, the band have been hard at work, spreading their music, and the feedback they've been getting from fans, local radio stations, and shows has been more then great. Their 2006 studio release "Silent Serpentine Chaos" is placed at number 13 on Metal Forge's list for top 50 reviews of all time." "Jazz Theory" is a thrash metal song, that falls into a Spanish acoustic solo, only to be roared into a soaring guitar solo...one of the high points on the album."

" Iโm not convinced that the band members are 'viciously good lookingโ, but the music does it for me, and thatโs what Iโll leave you with"

"Sri Lanka's Biggest Band ever" "Sri Lanka isnโt exactly a country known for metal, nor known for anything really. So when I happened to come across this full length release, Silent Chaos Serpentine, I was certainly surprised to find out this was from Sri Lanka. They had a certain flair and weird combination of styles that isnโt exactly found a lot in metal; weird aggressive thrash mixed with semi-Gothenburg styled vocals overlapping with fun and melodic solos that highlight this to more of a distinct style. Even some weird ass flamenco/Spanish folky acoustic picking sections are thrown in on one song throwing a curve ball; like where the f**k did that come from? Is this Carlos Santana mixed with the guy from Krisiun??"

"Genre busting metal with a thrash backbone" "After hearing the start of the speed inflicted opener Swine Maker, youโd be forgiven for thinking Stigmata was a fairly straight ahead, old school-esque thrash band. Before long however, the band deftly weaves a bit of mid-nineties melo death into the mix to keep things interesting. The genre fornication doesnโt stop there however; with other tracks spitting out segments of grind (Jazz Theory), prog (Lucid) and traditional heavy metal (Solitude). Overall, Stigmataโs unique style is certainly an enjoyable one, the band making their formidable compositional skills well and truly heard"

LIVE & LOUD WAS ๐ฅ
Dearest Stigmata Family,
Lend us a modicum of your time, if you will.
First and foremost โ THANK YOU so much for rocking up yesterday and supporting us, Sri Lankan Rock/Metal, and the originality movement. ๐ค๐ฝโค๏ธ
Yes, there were some technical issues, and our set being cut short by almost 45 minutes.
But we knew going in that it wouldn't necessarily be smooth sailing.
We have consciously chosen to step outside our comfort zone โ to perform at bigger, more diverse events, reach new audiences, and take our music beyond the spaces we traditionally inhabit. With that will naturally come certain obstacles.
As I often say:
'when you pray for rain, expect some mud.'
But there was certainly a LOT of good yesterday. In fact, far more good than bad.
Overall, it was a very well-organised show, William Jay, Dexter, Ashan, Ru and REDEEMERS were hospitable and welcoming.
Thank you to Gypsies for the shout out.
Chanul did a commendable job for a young lad behind the mixer, especially under challenging circumstances.
It was a terrific experience and we won over some new fans.
We also met more than a few people who were seeing us for the very first time โ some genuinely surprised and impressed to discover that Sri Lanka has original Metal bands doing what we do.
That matters.
A massive thank you to Kaveesha Wijesooriya for joining us onstage once again with those mesmeric ๐ป chops.
We sold some merch too โ many thanks to *Ahinsa* for helping us out yesterday.
A huge shout-out to Camy Angelina Stave and Adam Durent Fonseka for everything from the make-up and styling.
Thisara Dhananjaya , thank you for the amazing backdrop and visuals, and for your support during soundcheck.
Gayan Perera , thank you for rocking up and helping us with photography.
Red Rum, for always having our backs and for the mad support.
Jessica Criset Stave, for making sure we actually had our song lists printed and ready.
And the amazing Dina Philips for the mad love & support.
We gave our all to entertain everyone in that massive space, but ultimately performed for YOU guys ๐ฅ๐ค๐ป
Next show is on Saturday 29 August at Main Sports Bar and Restaurant.
