πŸŒŠβ˜€οΈ SOLAR POWER β€” 10 METERS UNDER THE SEA!

Chinese researchers have successfully tested a perovskite solar power system 10 meters (33 feet) beneath the surface of the open sea.

Researchers from Yunnan University used the system to charge lithium-ion batteries and power an LED panel underwater.

Unlike conventional silicon solar cells, these new perovskite solar cells are designed to capture blue-green light, which can pe*****te seawater more effectively at greater depths.

πŸ”¬ A larger test module achieved an impressive 29.4% efficiency under simulated underwater conditions.

The researchers also developed a multilayer waterproof structure to protect the cells from seawater corrosion, pressure, and moisture. After 1,000 hours of immersion in simulated seawater, the cells retained 99.58% of their initial performance.

🌊 In a real-world test in the South China Sea, the system generated 324 mWh of electricity in just two hours at a depth of 10 meters β€” enough to recharge batteries and power an LED panel.

πŸš€ What could this mean for the future?

This technology could potentially provide continuous power for underwater sensors, cameras, communication equipment, and other remote marine systems β€” opening up a new frontier for solar energy.

β˜€οΈ A NEW GENERATION OF SOLAR HAS ARRIVED IN SRI LANKA.

Yesterday, 18 September 2026, we had the opportunity to attend the Jinko – MEGA Solar Roadshow 2026 at Shangri-La Hambantota, where the latest generation of JinkoSolar Tiger Neo 3.0 solar technology was unveiled.

Built around advanced N-Type TOPCon technology, Tiger Neo 3.0 represents another step forward in solar module efficiency, power density and long-term performance.

⚑ Up to 670 W power output
β˜€οΈ Up to 24.8% module efficiency
πŸ”„ Up to 85% Β±5% bifaciality
🌑️ Optimised temperature performance
πŸ“‰ Only 0.35% annual degradation
🌀️ Strong performance under low-light conditions
πŸ›‘οΈ Dual-glass bifacial module design

For Sri Lanka, where rooftop space and energy yield matter, technologies that can deliver more power from each panel are particularly interesting.

We are pleased to see Mega Solar and Jinko Solar bringing the next generation of PV technology closer to the Sri Lankan solar industry.

A valuable event, great technical insights, and an exciting look at what is coming next. πŸ‡±πŸ‡°β˜€οΈ

β˜€οΈ THE WORLD IS GOING SOLAR β€” AND SRI LANKA IS MOVING WITH IT.

Solar PV has become one of the fastest-growing sources of new electricity worldwide. By the end of 2024, global solar PV capacity reached 1,865 GW, with a record 452 GW added in a single year.

Sri Lanka is also making significant progress. In 2024, rooftop solar reached 1,141 MW across more than 73,000 connections, while solar generated more than 1,100 GWh of electricity during the year.

πŸ‡±πŸ‡° We may be a small island, but our solar potential is enormous.

The journey has only just begun.
