Alleged AFL Impersonator Forwarded to Court in Gbarnga

Police in Gbarnga, B**g County, have forwarded a man identified as Sampson Sumo to court on charges of impersonation after he was allegedly caught posing as a member of the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL).

Sumo, a resident of Gbarnga who is believed to be a gospel musician, was arrested following allegations that he falsely presented himself as military personnel.

Speaking on the matter, B**g County Police Commander, ACP William Johnson, said the suspect allegedly went to Depot One in Gbarnga and attempted to interfere with an ongoing police investigation while claiming to be an AFL officer.

According to ACP Johnson, officers requested that Sumo identify himself as military personnel. However, instead of producing an official identification card, he reportedly showed police officers a photograph of himself dressed in an army uniform on his mobile phone.

According to ACP Johnson, Depot One Commander, Chief Inspector of Police Morhafee Jabateh, immediately contacted authorities at the AFL barracks in Gbarnga to verify Sumo's claim.

Military officials subsequently confirmed that Sampson Sumo is not a member of the Armed Forces of Liberia, prompting police to initiate legal proceedings against him.

Reports further indicate that Sumo had previously been seen in several rural communities around Gbarnga dressed in full military uniform while allegedly claiming to be a senior AFL officer.

The case is now before the court for adjudication.
