YUGNet-Liberia Joins Actionaid Liberia and Multi-Stakeholder CSOs in the Campaign today in Monrovia. ✊

Monrovia, Liberia | August 6, 2026

Yugnet Liberia today, joined ActionAid Liberia and a broad coalition of multi-stakeholder civil society organizations in the global campaign, calling for climate justice, debt justice, and fair climate finance for countries on the frontlines of the climate crisis.

The campaign amplified a simple but powerful question: Who really owes who? While industrialized nations have accounted for the largest share of global greenhouse gas emissions, countries like Liberia continue to face the harsh realities of climate change despite contributing the least to the crisis.

Participants emphasized that climate-vulnerable countries should not be compelled to take on additional loans to address a crisis they did not create. Instead, developed countries must honor their climate finance commitments by providing adequate, accessible, and grant-based support that enables vulnerable nations to build resilience without deepening national debt.

During the event, YUGNet–Liberia reaffirmed its commitment to championing youth-led climate action, strengthening community resilience, and advocating for policies that promote climate justice and sustainable development. The organization also called for greater investment in locally led adaptation initiatives and meaningful youth participation in climate decision-making.

The event brought together civil society organizations, youth activists, development partners, and community representatives to collectively demand accountability, equity, and justice in global climate financing.

YUGNet–Liberia remains committed to collaborating with ActionAid Liberia and other partners to ensure that the voices of young people and climate-vulnerable communities are heard in national, regional, and global climate discussions.

Youth Take Climate Action to the Streets of West Point, Monrovia 🤝

Following the successful stakeholders' engagement on the localization of Liberia's Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) 3.0, participants took climate action directly into the heart of West Point, one of Liberia's most climate-vulnerable communities.

With support from Actionaid Liberia under the Strategic Partnership for Agreement (SPAII) Project, participants, alongside the YUGNet Liberia team, conducted an extensive community awareness campaign throughout West Point and its surrounding neighborhoods.

The outreach aimed to increase public understanding of climate change, introduce community members to Liberia's NDC 3.0, and encourage citizens—particularly young people—to become active participants in climate action and environmental stewardship.

Using the YUGNet-Liberia NDC 3.0 Toolkit, participants engaged residents through face-to-face discussions, educational sessions, and community interactions. They explained the key sectors of Liberia's NDC 3.0, the country's climate commitments, and practical actions individuals and communities can take to contribute to national climate goals.

West Point, recognized as Liberia's largest informal settlement, remains highly vulnerable to climate-related challenges, including flooding, coastal erosion, poor waste management, and rising sea levels. These realities underscored the importance of bringing climate education directly to the community, ensuring that residents are informed and empowered to build resilience against the impacts of climate change.

The awareness campaign demonstrated the power of youth leadership and community engagement in advancing climate justice. Participants served not only as ambassadors of climate knowledge but also as advocates for sustainable practices and inclusive climate governance.
