YUGNet-Liberia Advances Youth Land Rights, Climate Justice and Sustainable Agriculture

Monrovia, Liberia | September 4, 2026

Yugnet Liberia continues to advance its commitment to climate action, inclusive governance, youth leadership, land rights, and sustainable development through strategic engagement in national policy and development processes.

The institution participated in the 2nd National Youth Land Conference, convened by the MAP Liberia Land Platform from September 2–3, 2026.

Mr. Abba Sampson Godsent Wherdaigar, Executive Director of YUGNet–Liberia, represented the institution at the two-day national conference, contributing to discussions on youth land rights, climate justice, responsible agricultural investment, and sustainable land governance.

The conference created an important platform for young leaders and stakeholders to examine the critical gap between Liberia's progressive land laws and the practical inclusion of young people in land governance.

Discussions focused on strengthening youth understanding of the Land Rights Act, customary tenure formalization, climate justice frameworks, agriculture financing, transparent natural resource management, and national food security.

For YUGNet–Liberia, these issues are deeply connected to the organization's broader mission of empowering young people to become effective leaders and advocates for climate justice, accountable governance, environmental sustainability, and inclusive development.

A key focus of the conference was the development of a National Youth Action Plan outlining localized advocacy strategies, monitoring frameworks, and community-entry models.

YUGNet–Liberia welcomes this approach as an important step toward transforming youth participation from dialogue into measurable action and policy influence.

The institution believes that young people must not only be beneficiaries of land and climate policies but also active participants in shaping, implementing, monitoring, and advocating for those policies.

As a growing youth-led Liberian institution with a global outlook, YUGNet–Liberia continues to connect local community action with broader international development and climate priorities.

Our work increasingly intersects with climate justice, sustainable agriculture, food systems, youth participation, human rights, gender inclusion, environmental protection, and good governance.

Through strategic partnerships, policy engagement, youth mobilization, and participation in national and international platforms, YUGNet–Liberia is committed to amplifying the voices of Liberian youth and positioning them as drivers of solutions to global challenges.

YUGNet–Liberia extends its sincere appreciation to the MAP Liberia Land Platform, Land for Life, and Rights and Rice Foundation for the invitation and for convening this important national platform.

We commend the organizers for creating space for young people to learn, exchange ideas, develop collective strategies, and contribute to conversations around land rights, climate justice, sustainable agriculture, and responsible natural resource governance.

Yugnet Liberia Participates in Youth Climate Negotiators Training Ahead of COP31

Monrovia, Liberia — YUGNet-Liberia is participating in a Youth Climate Negotiators Training bringing together 30 young Liberians to strengthen their capacity and preparedness for COP31 and other UNFCCC processes.

The training is focused on equipping young climate leaders with practical knowledge and skills in climate negotiations, policy advocacy, diplomacy, and effective youth representation within national and international climate processes.

Representing YUGNet–Liberia at Day One of the training was a team headed by Frances B. K. Tarpeh, Head of Administration, alongside other staff members. Their participation reflects YUGNet–Liberia’s commitment to supporting initiatives that strengthen meaningful and inclusive youth engagement in climate governance.

The training forms part of broader efforts to ensure that young Liberians are better prepared to articulate their priorities, engage constructively in climate negotiations, and contribute to shaping decisions that affect their future.

Through its participation, YUGNet–Liberia continues to support the advancement of inclusive youth representation on the global climate stage, particularly as young leaders prepare for COP31 and other UNFCCC processes.

YUGNet–Liberia believes that meaningful youth participation requires more than a seat at the table—it requires the knowledge, skills, confidence, and opportunities to influence decisions.

YUGNet-Liberia Calls for Greater Support for Youth-Led Climate Project Development

Kakata City, Margibi County | August 27, 2026

Yugnet Liberia is calling for increased technical and financial support for youth-led institutions to develop bankable climate projects aligned with Liberia’s Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) and National Adaptation Plan (NAP).

The call was made during the National Adaptation Plan (NAP) Pipeline Proposal Development Workshop, organized by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) of Liberia through its Department of Multilateral Environmental Agreements, in collaboration with and with funding support from the NAP Global Network.

The three-day workshop, held from August 26–28, 2026, in Kakata City, brought together government institutions, civil society organizations, youth and women’s groups, academia, development partners, and the private sector to strengthen capacity for developing climate adaptation project pipelines and investment-ready proposals.

Speaking during an interaction session, YUGNet–Liberia Executive Director, Abba Sampson Godsent Wherdaigar challenged stakeholders to consider stronger mechanisms for supporting youth-led organizations to access climate finance.

“Would the GCF be open to supporting a pipeline-development or capacity-building mechanism for youth-led organizations in Liberia, so that organizations can develop bankable climate projects aligned with the NDC and NAP before seeking full GCF investment?”

The intervention highlights an important gap: many youth-led organizations have innovative ideas and are actively addressing climate change at the community level, but often lack the technical expertise and financial resources required to transform these ideas into bankable climate investment proposals.

YUGNet–Liberia is therefore calling on the Government of Liberia, Environmental Protection Agency - EPA of Liberia , Green Climate Fund (GCF), development partners, climate finance institutions, and philanthropic organizations to establish or support dedicated mechanisms that can provide youth-led institutions with:

🔹 Climate finance readiness support
🔹 Feasibility and climate-risk assessments
🔹 Proposal and concept-note development
🔹 Financial modelling and investment planning
🔹 Monitoring, evaluation and safeguards capacity
🔹 Mentorship and partnerships with accredited climate finance entities

Liberia’s NAP recognizes the importance of strengthening capacity and developing investment-grade adaptation projects while improving access to climate finance.

YUGNet–Liberia believes that young people should not only be consulted in climate policy processes—they should be equipped and supported to design, develop, and implement climate solutions.
