In Morocco, the UNHCR (United Nations Refugee Agency) works with the Moroccan authorities and partner organizations to protect refugees and asylum-seekers. While Morocco continues to develop its national asylum system, UNHCR handles registration and refugee status determination under its mandate, in cooperation with Moroccan authorities. UNHCR also supports access to documentation, legal assistance, health and education services, livelihoods, social assistance and other protection services. �

UNHCR's protection work also includes the principle of non-refoulement, meaning refugees and asylum-seekers should not be returned or expelled to a country where their life or physical integrity would be at risk. The role of ReFoRr Maroc
Through community-based initiatives such as this food distribution, ReFoRr Maroc seeks to complement existing protection efforts by responding directly to the everyday needs of vulnerable refugees, particularly people who may experience poverty, social exclusion, discrimination or difficulty accessing basic necessities.
The partnership with Safe Place International demonstrates how refugee-led and community-based organizations can contribute to humanitarian response by identifying needs within refugee communities, mobilizing assistance and creating spaces where refugees can receive support with dignity.
ReFoRr Maroc's approach is therefore centered on community solidarity, protection, advocacy and empowerment. Beyond emergency assistance such as food support, ReFoRr can help connect refugees with relevant protection actors and services, raise awareness about their rights, advocate for vulnerable LGBTQ+ refugees, and encourage stronger collaboration between refugee communities, humanitarian organizations and institutions.
