Le mot « bourse » ne désignait pas, à l'origine, une aide destinée aux étudiants.

Il s'agissait d'un petit sac en cuir dans lequel on conservait de l'argent. Le terme vient du grec býrsa (« cuir »), puis du latin bursa (« sac »).

Au fil du temps, le mot a pris un nouveau sens : celui d'une somme d'argent accordée pour aider une personne.

C'est de là qu'est née la bourse d'études.

Aujourd'hui, la bourse nationale accordée aux étudiants Malagasy perpétue cette idée : offrir un soutien financier pour favoriser l'accès à l'enseignement supérieur.

La connaissance de l'histoire des mots permet souvent de mieux comprendre notre société.
