Direct Speech (တိုက်ရိုက်ပြောစကား) နဲ့ Indirect Speech / Reported Speech (သွယ်ဝိုက်ပြောစကား) ကို အင်္ဂလိပ်စာမှာ အရေးကြီးတဲ့ Grammar အပိုင်းတစ်ခုအဖြစ် အဆင့် ၅ ဆင့် ခွဲပြီး လွယ်လွယ်ကူကူ ရှင်းပြပါမယ်။

အဆင့် (၁) — Direct Speech ဆိုတာဘာလဲ?
Direct Speech ဆိုတာ လူတစ်ယောက်ပြောခဲ့တဲ့စကားကို မူရင်းအတိုင်း ပြန်ဖော်ပြခြင်း ဖြစ်ပါတယ်။
👉 Quotation marks (“ ”) သုံးရပါတယ်။
ပုံစံ
Subject + reporting verb + “မူရင်းပြောစကား”
ဥပမာ—
> He said, “I am tired.”
အဓိပ္ပါယ် —
သူက “ကျွန်တော် ပင်ပန်းနေပြီ” လို့ ပြောတယ်။
နောက်ထပ်—
> She said, “I like English.”
> The teacher said, “You are good students.”
ဒီမှာ “ ” အတွင်းက စကားတွေဟာ ပြောသူရဲ့ မူရင်းစကားဖြစ်ပါတယ်။

အဆင့် (၂) — Indirect Speech ဆိုတာဘာလဲ?
Indirect Speech ကို Reported Speech လို့လည်း ခေါ်ပါတယ်။
တစ်ယောက်ပြောခဲ့တဲ့စကားကို မူရင်းအတိုင်းမယူဘဲ ကိုယ်တိုင် ပြန်လည်ဖော်ပြခြင်း ဖြစ်ပါတယ်။
Quotation marks မသုံးတော့ပါ။
Direct
> He said, “I am tired.”
Indirect
> He said that he was tired.
အဓိပ္ပါယ်က အတူတူပဲ ဖြစ်ပါတယ်။
Direct → မူရင်းစကားကို တိုက်ရိုက်ပြော
Indirect → အခြားသူပြောခဲ့တာကို ပြန်ပြော

အဆင့် (၃) — Pronoun ပြောင်းနည်း
Direct → Indirect ပြောင်းတဲ့အခါ Pronoun တွေကို အခြေအနေအရ ပြောင်းရပါတယ်။

Pronoun ပြောင်းတဲ့အခါ ဘယ်သူက ပြောတာလဲ၊ ဘယ်သူ့အကြောင်း ပြောတာလဲ ဆိုတာကို အရင်စဉ်းစားရပါတယ်။

အဆင့် (၄) — Tense ပြောင်းနည်း
ဒါက Direct → Indirect ပြောင်းရာမှာ အရေးအကြီးဆုံးအပိုင်း ဖြစ်ပါတယ်။
Reporting verb က past tense ဖြစ်ရင် မူရင်းဝါကျရဲ့ tense ကို အများအားဖြင့် နောက်တစ်ဆင့် past သို့ ပြောင်းပါတယ်။

အရေးကြီးသော သတိပြုရန်
Reporting verb က Present Tense ဖြစ်ရင် tense ကို အမြဲတမ်း ပြောင်းစရာမလိုပါ။
> He says, “I am tired.”
→ He says that he is tired.
ဒါကြောင့် said နဲ့ says ကို သေချာကြည့်ပါ။

Direct Speech ကနေ Indirect Speech ပြောင်းတဲ့အခါ အချိန်နဲ့နေရာပြ စကားလုံးတွေ လည်း အခြေအနေအရ ပြောင်းရပါတယ်။

Direct Speech ကို Indirect Speech ပြောင်းတဲ့အခါ အဆင့် ၅ ဆင့် နဲ့ စဉ်းစားပါ။

ဒီဝါကျမှာ—
I → he
am studying → was studying

ဆိုပြီး ၄ ခု ပြောင်းသွားတာကို သတိထားပါ။
အရင် ၅ ဆင့်မှာ Statement (အဆိုဝါကျ) အခြေခံကို ရှင်းခဲ့ပါတယ်။ အခု Direct → Indirect Speech မှာ ကျန်နေသေးတဲ့ အရေးကြီးတဲ့အချက်တွေ—အထူးသဖြင့် must → had to, Question, Command, Request, Advice, Reporting verbs စတာတွေကို ဆက်ရှင်းပါမယ်။
အဆင့် (၆) — Modal Verbs ပြောင်းလဲခြင်း

အဓိပ္ပါယ် — သူက မိမိသွားရမယ်လို့ ပြောခဲ့တယ်။
2. must not ကို သတိထားပါ
must not က တားမြစ်ခြင်းဖြစ်တဲ့အတွက် ပုံမှန်အားဖြင့် must not ကိုပဲ ထားနိုင်ပါတယ်။
> The teacher said, “You must not make noise.”
→ The teacher said that we must not make noise.
must → had to ဆိုတာက တာဝန်/လိုအပ်ချက် အဓိပ္ပါယ်ရှိတဲ့ must ဖြစ်တဲ့အခါ ဖြစ်ပါတယ်။

အဆင့် (၇) — Yes/No Question
Direct Speech မှာ Yes/No Question ဖြစ်ရင် Indirect Speech မှာ—
asked + if/whether + Subject + Verb
ပုံစံကို သုံးပါတယ်။
Direct
> He asked me, “Are you busy?”
Indirect
> He asked me if I was busy.
⚠️ Question ဖြစ်ပေမယ့် Indirect Speech ထဲမှာ question order မသုံးတော့ပါ။
❌ He asked me if was I busy.
✅ He asked me if I was busy.
နောက်ထပ်ဥပမာ
> She asked him, “Do you like coffee?”
→ She asked him whether he liked coffee.
do/does/did တွေကိုလည်း မူရင်း question structure အတိုင်း မထားတော့ပါ။

အဆင့် (၈) — Wh-Question
What, Where, When, Why, Who, How စတဲ့ Wh-words ပါတဲ့ မေးခွန်းတွေမှာ if/whether မသုံးပါ။

Direct
> He asked me, “Where do you live?”
Indirect
> He asked me where I lived.
သတိပြုရန်—

နောက်ထပ်ဥပမာ
Direct:
> She asked me, “Why are you late?”
Indirect:
> She asked me why I was late.

> He asked, “When will you come?”

> He asked when I would come.

တစ်ယောက်ကို အမိန့်ပေးခြင်း ဖြစ်ရင်—
told + object + to + V1
သုံးပါတယ်။

> The teacher said to me, “Open the book.”
Indirect
> The teacher told me to open the book.

said to + object → told + object
“V1” → to + V1

“မလုပ်နဲ့” ဆိုရင်—

အဆင့် (၁၀) — Request / တောင်းဆိုခြင်း
ယဉ်ကျေးစွာ တောင်းဆိုတာဖြစ်ရင်—
asked + object + to + V1
Direct
> He said to me, “Please help me.”
Indirect
> He asked me to help him.
“Please” ပါရင်
Indirect Speech မှာ please ကို မထားတော့ဘဲ asked စတဲ့ reporting verb သုံးနိုင်ပါတယ်။

အဆင့် (၁၁) — Advice / အကြံပေးခြင်း
should ပါတဲ့ ဝါကျတွေမှာ advised + object + to + V1 သုံးလို့ရပါတယ်။
Direct
> The doctor said to him, “You should rest.”
Indirect
> The doctor advised him to rest.
နောက်ထပ်—
> Father said to me, “You should study hard.”
→ Father advised me to study hard.

အဆင့် (၁၂) — “Let” ပါသော ဝါကျ
Let က အခြေအနေအလိုက် ပြောင်းပုံ မတူပါ။
“Let us …” = အဆိုပြုခြင်း
> He said, “Let us go.”
→ He suggested that we should go.
ဒါမှမဟုတ်—
→ He suggested going.
ဒီနေရာမှာ told us to go လို့ ပြောင်းတာက အဓိပ္ပါယ်အနည်းငယ် ကွာနိုင်ပါတယ်။

“Let me …” = ခွင့်တောင်းခြင်း
> He said, “Let me go.”
→ He asked to be allowed to go.
အဓိပ္ပါယ်က “ကျွန်တော့်ကို သွားခွင့်ပြုပါ” ဆိုတဲ့သဘောပါ။

အဆင့် (၁၃) — Exclamation / အာမေဍိတ်ဝါကျ
Hurrah!, Alas!, What!, How! စတဲ့ အာမေဍိတ်စကားတွေပါရင် reporting verb ကို အဓိပ္ပါယ်အလိုက် ပြောင်းနိုင်ပါတယ်။
ဝမ်းသာခြင်း
Direct:
> He said, “Hurrah! We have won the match.”
Indirect:
> He exclaimed with joy that they had won the match.
ဝမ်းနည်းခြင်း
Direct:
> He said, “Alas! I have lost my book.”
Indirect:
> He exclaimed with sorrow that he had lost his book.

အဆင့် (၁၄) — “said” နဲ့ “told” ကွာခြားချက်
ဒီအချက်က စာမေးပွဲမှာ အလွန်အရေးကြီးပါတယ်။

အဆင့် (၁၅) — Tense မပြောင်းရတဲ့ အခြေအနေများ
အရင်က said ဖြစ်ရင် tense နောက်ပြန်ပြောင်းတတ်တယ်လို့ ပြောခဲ့ပါတယ်။ ဒါပေမယ့် အမြဲတမ်း မပြောင်းရပါ။
① Universal Truth
အမြဲမှန်နေတဲ့ အချက်ဖြစ်ရင် tense မပြောင်းနိုင်ပါတယ်။
Direct:
> The teacher said, “The earth moves around the sun.”
Indirect:
> The teacher said that the earth moves around the sun.
moves → moved လို့ မပြောင်းဘဲ moves ကိုထားတာ ပိုမှန်ပါတယ်၊ အကြောင်းက ကမ္ဘာက နေကို လှည့်ပတ်နေခြင်းဟာ ယခုတိုင်မှန်နေတဲ့ အချက်ဖြစ်လို့ပါ။

→ He says that he is busy.
says → said မဖြစ်တဲ့အတွက် am → was လည်း မဖြစ်ပါ။
