When we decided to adopt Benedetta, we made ourselves one promise: to give her the life she deserves. A life filled with good food, cosy naps, new places to explore and plenty of opportunities to make amazing memories. Benedetta absolutely loves interaction and thrives on experiencing the world around her. Keeping her confined indoors with no freedom or mental stimulation simply isn’t the life we envisioned for her.

She has quickly become the best little companion and because her safety is our top priority, we use a Zee.Cat harness and a Ferribiella carrier whenever we head out on our adventures together.

Owning a pet is a huge responsibility, especially when you’re giving a second chance to a stray who was abandoned. Our goal isn’t just to give Benedetta a home, but to give her the happiest, healthiest and most fulfilling life possible.

Although she’s only been with us for a few days, we’ve never forced her to wear a harness or get into her carrier. Everything has been introduced patiently and positively. Benedetta willingly comes over because she knows an adventure is waiting for her. Trust takes time and we’re committed to building it at her pace.

Safety will always come first. As confident and curious as Benedetta is, it only takes one unexpected scare for a cat to bolt. We also want to protect her from very real dangers, like traffic or an encounter with an unfamiliar dog. Exploring safely means she gets to enjoy the outdoors while we have peace of mind.

Sadly, when it comes to cat welfare in Malta, we still have a long way to go. In many countries, cats are increasingly recognised as intelligent, active animals that benefit from enrichment, training and safe outdoor experiences. Here, they’re often still seen as “easy” or “lazy” pets, and many spend their entire lives without enough mental stimulation, which can lead to frustration and stress.

Every cat is different and what works for Benedetta may not be right for another. But we hope that by sharing our journey, we can encourage more people to think beyond simply owning a pet and instead focus on giving them a life where they can truly thrive✨
