"Building sustainable livelihoods starts at the household level." π
Integrated farming is proving to be a game-changer for smallholder farmers in Malawi. By integrating crop farming with livestock and aquaculture, communities are boosting food production, improving dietary diversity, and strengthening financial independence through co-operatives.
We are excited to see this work highlighted in the news!

π What happens when the rains become less predictable, crops become harder to grow, and our lakes face increasing pressure?
For many Malawian farmers, the answer is increasingly found in aquaculture.
A new feature by The Times explores how fish farming is gaining ground as farmers look for more resilient ways to secure food, generate income and adapt to a changing climate.
The story also highlights an approach at the heart of the IAAM Project: integrating aquaculture with agriculture.
Rather than treating fish farming and crop production as separate activities, integrated aquaculture-agriculture systems can help farmers make better use of available resources, diversify their sources of food and income, and build greater resilience.

We are still celebrating the award we got from the NAF 2026! π
But this one is bigger than the trophy.
This award is for the farmers we work with every day - the fish farmers, crop producers, processors, co-operatives, and communities who are putting integrated aquaculture-agriculture into practice to produce more, add value and build stronger livelihoods.
It is rooted in our shared desire to combat food insecurity in Malawi by supporting farmers with practical, climate-smart solutions that bring aquaculture and agriculture together, create income and improve access to nutritious food.
From our project teams, government officials, and partners to the farmers who are turning these innovations into action, this recognition belongs to the whole IAAM family.
So, as we celebrate the Best Service Provider Exhibitor award from the 22nd National Agriculture Fair, we celebrate the people at the heart of the work.
For the farmers. For stronger livelihoods. For better nutrition. For a food-secure Malawi.
This one is for you. π

Value Addition in Action at the 22nd National Agriculture Fair!
The CDF CanadaβIAAM Project is at the Chichiri Trade Fair Grounds showcasing how integrated aquaculture-agriculture systems can turn production into greater value, stronger livelihoods and new market opportunities.
From aquaculture and agronomy to agroforestry and value addition, our farmers and project teams are demonstrating practical innovations across the agricultural value chain.
The response has been encouraging. Visitors have explored and purchased fresh fish, smoked fish and other value-added fish products, while also learning about the use of fish powder, its nutritional benefits and its potential applications, as well as the broader opportunities in aquaculture in Malawi.
The focus on value addition at this yearβs Fair closely reflects the call made by the Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development, Roza Fatch Mbilizi, during the official opening of the 22nd National Agriculture Fair. She emphasised the need for Malawi to move beyond producing more to creating greater value from what we produce, supported by innovation, modern technologies, climate-smart agriculture, mechanisation and stronger market linkages.
MCCCI President Ronald Ngwira likewise highlighted the Fair as an important platform for farmers, agribusinesses and innovators to connect with investors and markets, while strengthening value chains and reducing post-harvest losses.
For the IAAM Project, this is precisely what value addition is about: transforming what farmers produce into products that create more income, improve nutrition and open doors to better markets.
