FORMAL PETITION FOR THE URGENT REHABILITATION AND RECONSTRUCTION OF THE UYO–IKOT ABASI ROAD

To:
His Excellency, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR
President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces
Federal Republic of Nigeria
State House, Abuja.

Through:
The Honourable Minister of Works
Federal Ministry of Works
Abuja, Nigeria.

And to:
The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer
Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA)

The Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy

The National Assembly Members representing the good people of Ikot Abasi, Mkpat Enin, Eastern Obolo Federal Constituency Rt Hon. Uduak Odudoh

The Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State HE. Pastor Umo Eno

The Honourable Commissioner for Works, Akwa Ibom State

PETITION FOR URGENT FEDERAL GOVERNMENT INTERVENTION ON THE DEPLORABLE CONDITION OF THE UYO–IKOT ABASI ROAD

Your Excellency, Mr. President,

We respectfully submit this petition to draw the urgent attention of the Federal Government to the worsening condition of the Uyo–Ikot Abasi Road, a critical road corridor in Akwa Ibom State that has suffered prolonged deterioration and now poses a serious threat to the safety and wellbeing of thousands of road users.

The condition of this road has become a matter of grave public concern. What should be a vital transportation and economic corridor has, over the years, deteriorated to the point where motorists and commuters are routinely exposed to dangerous driving conditions.

In several sections, motorists are confronted with severe potholes, damaged portions of the carriageway, poor drainage and other hazards. During periods of heavy rainfall, the situation becomes even more difficult and dangerous.

A MATTER OF PUBLIC SAFETY

Your Excellency, we are particularly concerned that the continued deterioration of this road is no longer simply an infrastructure problem. It has become a public safety emergency.

The poor state of the road increases the risk of road crashes, vehicle damage, prolonged journeys and other dangers to commuters. Commercial transport operators are also forced to spend more on vehicle repairs and maintenance, costs which are ultimately transferred to ordinary citizens through increased transport fares.

The people should not have to choose between making essential journeys and risking their lives on a road that should serve as a safe link between communities.

ECONOMIC IMPORTANCE

The Uyo–Ikot Abasi corridor is important to the economic and social life of the people of Akwa Ibom State and neighbouring areas.

The road facilitates the movement of workers, students, farmers, traders, business owners, agricultural produce, manufactured goods and essential services.

Its deterioration therefore has consequences beyond transportation. It affects commerce, agriculture, education, healthcare, employment and the general economic wellbeing of communities along the corridor.

A functional road network is essential to the success of the Federal Government's economic development agenda. Improving this road would therefore represent an investment in both human safety and economic growth.

OUR HONEST DEMANDS AND REQUESTS

In view of the seriousness of the situation, we respectfully petition Your Excellency and the relevant authorities to urgently:

1. Direct an immediate inspection and comprehensive technical assessment of the entire Uyo–Ikot Abasi Road.

2. Approve emergency intervention on the worst sections of the road to make them safe and passable while comprehensive rehabilitation is being arranged.

3. Commence comprehensive rehabilitation or reconstruction of portions of the road that have deteriorated beyond routine maintenance.

4. Address inadequate or damaged drainage infrastructure, which contributes significantly to the deterioration of the road.

5. Ensure that qualified contractors are engaged and that their work is properly supervised to guarantee value for public funds.

6. Establish and make public a clear timeline for the commencement and completion of the rehabilitation works.

7. Ensure regular maintenance of the road after rehabilitation so that the same problem does not recur.

8. Direct the relevant authorities to install appropriate road safety signs, markings and warning measures at dangerous sections pending permanent repairs.

AN APPEAL ON BEHALF OF THE PEOPLE

Mr. President, this petition is not intended as a political attack. It is an appeal on behalf of ordinary Nigerians who use this road every day.

Behind every vehicle travelling on this road is a human being—a parent, child, worker, student, trader, farmer, entrepreneur or public servant.

Every journey should not become a battle for survival.

We therefore respectfully appeal to Your Excellency to use your good offices to direct the relevant Federal Government agencies to take immediate and decisive action.

We also call upon our representatives in the National Assembly, the Akwa Ibom State Government, FERMA and all other relevant authorities to support this intervention and ensure that the Uyo–Ikot Abasi Road receives the urgent attention it deserves.

CONCLUSION

Your Excellency, we believe that the Federal Government has both the responsibility and the capacity to address this situation.

The people of Akwa Ibom State have waited patiently for a lasting solution. We respectfully ask that this matter be treated as an urgent issue of public safety, economic development and human dignity.

We do not want to wait for another avoidable tragedy before action is taken.

We appeal to Your Excellency: please save lives by urgently intervening on the Uyo–Ikot Abasi Road.

We trust in your administration's commitment to infrastructure development and believe that your intervention can bring lasting relief to the thousands of Nigerians who depend on this road.

Respectfully submitted

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
THE AUDACITY OF COMPASSION: WHY GOVERNOR UMO ENO’S ARISE COMPASSIONATE HOMES PROGRAMME DEMANDS CONTINUITY IN AKWA IBOM STATE

BY: Ikpaisong John Ayang
(Coordinator of the CityBoy Movement, Ikot Abasi LGA Chapter, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria)

UYO, AKWA IBOM — In an era where regional governance is often measured strictly by concrete metrics and macroeconomic statistics, Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno is rewriting the leadership playbook. Through the ARISE Compassionate Homes Programme, the administration has turned governance into a direct instrument of empathy, providing dignified shelter and economic liberation to the state’s most vulnerable populations.

Redefining Grassroots Welfare

To date, the administration has completed 438 fully-furnished two-bedroom bungalows out of its first-term target of 500 homes. These residences are not mere masonry; they are modern, 21st-century structures built within the 31 Local Government Areas. Each home is handed over completely turnkey, integrated with:

1. Independent Solar Power Systems to eliminate energy poverty.

2. Dedicated Solar-Powered Boreholes providing clean water.

3. Complete Furnishings, including living room sets, bedding, and distinct sanitary facilities.

4. A ₦500,000 Direct Economic Grant per beneficiary to launch sustainable micro-enterprises.

By focusing on disenfranchised widows, childless elders, and persons living with disabilities, the program ensures that the wealth of the state filters down to the citizens who need it most.

The Strategic Case for a Second Term

As stakeholders, community leaders, and civil groups mobilize across the state, the success of the ARISE Compassionate Homes aligns with a broader push for political continuity. Akwa Ibomites have clear, undeniable reasons to safeguard this governance model with a second-term mandate:

● Unprecedented Workers' and Retirees' Welfare: Alongside housing the vulnerable, the government has injected over ₦78 billion to systematically liquidate decades of inherited pension and gratuity backlogs. It has also allocated 150 residential units at Grace Estate completely free to low-grade civil servants (Grade Levels 1–7).

● Aggressive Infrastructure & Connectivity: The state remains a vast construction site, with over 771 kilometers of critical roads underway alongside the continuous fleet expansion of the award-winning
Ibom Air.

● Food Security and Economic Inclusivity: From the establishment of the Ibom Model Farm to the distribution of multi-billion-naira agricultural assets, the administration is actively building a self-sustaining local economy.

● Political Stability: Governor Eno has fostered cross-party harmony and a collaborative alignment with federal leadership, eliminating toxic political friction and ensuring federal infrastructure investments stream directly into Akwa Ibom.

A vote for Governor Umo Eno's second term is not just a political choice; it is a collective decision to protect our elderly, shelter our vulnerable, empower our youth, and ensure that the golden era of inclusive progress remains uncompromised.

God Bless the working Governor

AN OPEN LETTER TO THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY, THE NATIONAL BOUNDARY COMMISSION, AND THE AKWA IBOM STATE GOVERNMENT

REFUTING THE "ORO-OBOLO" ANCESTRAL CLAIM AND THE PROPOSED CREATION OF "Oro oBOLO STATE" ON THE BASIS OF LINGUISTIC, CULTURAL, AND GEOGRAPHICAL DISCONSOLIDATION

Distinguished Leaders,

This open letter is a formal call to the relevant constitutional authorities to scrutinize the claims made by the Oro-Obolo People’s Union (OOPU) regarding a unified "Oro-Obolo Nation" and the subsequent agitation for the creation of an "Obolo State." For the sake of historical accuracy, cultural preservation, and national security, it is necessary to present the indisputable anthropological, geographical, and legal facts that invalidate this proposed union.

1. The Myth of a Unified Linguistic and Cultural Identity

The assertion of a singular "Oro-Obolo" ancestral identity is anthropologically incorrect. The Oro and Obolo (Andoni) peoples are completely separate ethnic nationalities with distinct languages that share no mutual intelligibility.

♧ Linguistic Divergence: The Oro language and the Obolo language belong to entirely different linguistic classifications within the Cross River sub-branches. They do not share a common vocabulary, syntax, or grammatical structure that would indicate a single ancestral tongue.

♧ Distinct Societal Structures: Culturally, the Oro nation operates on a highly sophisticated social and political system that is entirely independent of the Obolo people. The Oro nation traditionally relies on the Ekpe and Anwan-idit societies as its institutional pillars for governance, justice, and spiritual expression. These institutions connect Oro deeply to the cultural heritage of the wider Cross River basin and the Efik nation, entirely separating them from Obolo social structures.

♧ Cultural Expressions: Unique Oro traditions, such as the Mmong Rung (water regatta) and ancestral clan festivals, reflect a historical development that is distinct from the traditions and customs of the Obolo people.

2. Divergent Spiritual Heritages and Migration Lines

The claim of deep ancestral affinity is further disproved by the completely separate spiritual backgrounds and historical migration routes of both groups:

♧ Divergent Religious Foundations: Historically, the two groups never shared a common traditional religion or worshipped the same central deities. The Obolo (Andoni) Nation traditionally centers its ancestral spiritual and martial allegiance on Yok-Obolo, their supreme national deity. Conversely, the Oro Nation historically revere their own distinct local shrines, community deities, and ancestral systems unique to the Oro clans, completely independent of the Obolo deity.

♧ Separate Migration Trails: Anthropological and historical records indicate that the Oro people share deep historical migration lines linked to the Efik and communities along the Cameroon line. This distinct migratory trail separates them entirely from the distinct settlement history of the Obolo (Andoni) people.

3. Absolute Lack of Geographical Contiguity

The attempt to merge these groups into a proposed "Oro obolo State" ignores the stark lack of geographic and administrative contiguity between the core communities.

The Oro nation is compactly situated within five contiguous Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Akwa Ibom State: Oron, Okobo, Mbo, Urue-Offong/Oruko, and Udung-Uko.

In contrast, the Obolo people are fragmented across entirely different administrative and geographic zones:

○ Eastern Obolo LGA is completely isolated from the Oro LGA by the massive landmass, coastlines, and river systems of Ibeno, Onna, and Mkpat Enin.

○ Andoni LGA is located much further west, entirely within Rivers State, separated from Akwa Ibom State by vast maritime borders and several other local governments.

4. Severe Constitutional and Legal Hurdles

Proposing a state that slices through existing, distinct state lines raises unprecedented constitutional challenges under Section 8(1) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Boundary adjustments and state creations involving communities from two entirely separate federating units—Akwa Ibom State and Rivers State—require highly complex boundary realignments, legal reviews by the National Boundary Commission, and concurrent statutory approvals across different state assemblies. An artificial political alliance cannot bypass these rigid constitutional frameworks.

Conclusion: A Alliance of Convenience, Not Lineage

While sharing an Atlantic coastline for fishing and maritime trade has naturally fostered economic interaction, economic proximity must not be confused with shared ancestry. The attempt to forge an "Oro-Obolo" bloc relies entirely on modern political convenience rather than historical, linguistic, or cultural oneness.

We urge the National Assembly, the National Boundary Commission, and His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, to protect the territorial integrity of existing states and reject agitations built on artificially constructed identities that deny the true heritages of the individual groups involved.

Stop demarketing Nigeria, because destroying our country's reputation online destroys our collective future, scares away investors, and kills the very jobs we desperately need. Every time we jump on global platforms to paint our entire nation black, we are not just criticizing bad governance; we are actively devaluing our own national brand and making life harder for ourselves.

By Ikpaisong John Ayang

The constant wave of negativity has severe real-world consequences. Global investors closely monitor social media sentiments before funding businesses. When we broadcast a narrative of absolute hopelessness, they take their factories, tech hubs, and capital to other countries, directly cutting off job opportunities for Nigerian youths. Furthermore, generalising Nigeria as a land of failure makes innocent citizens targets for international discrimination, visa denials, and harsh profiling at foreign airports. It also overshadows the incredible strides of millions of Nigerian youths who are winning globally in tech, arts, sports, and business.

We must learn to separate our leaders' failures from our national identity. While we must hold public officials accountable with facts and passion, we should attack the policy, not the passport. Foreign media already focuses heavily on our struggles, so if we do not celebrate our own tech innovators, creative artists, and local heroes, nobody will do it for us.

Nigeria is ours to fix. If we burn down our digital house, we will still have to live in its ashes. We can demand better governance and a more functional society without destroying the identity of our homeland. It is time to turn our anger into action by using our digital skills, creativity, and voices to build solutions, protect our brand, and push for the progress we all deserve.

Nigeria is our only country let's protect it

AN OFFICIAL STATEMENT IN SUPPORT OF DR. SAMUEL UDONSAK’S PRESENTATION ON THE HISTORICAL AND MARITIME BOUNDARIES OF EKID LAND

My humble self, leadership and stakeholders of our community stand in full solidarity with the President-General of the Ekid Peoples Union (EPU), Dr. Samuel Udonsak, following his recent address at the Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio inauguration in Uyo. His assertions regarding the littoral status and territorial boundaries of the region were not born out of a desire for conflict, but rather out of a fundamental commitment to historical accuracy, legal precedent, and the preservation of ancestral heritage.

Peaceful coexistence within Akwa Ibom State can only be sustained when it is anchored on verified facts and mutual respect for established boundaries. Dr. Udonsak’s presentation serves as a vital reminder of the following key points:

■ Adherence to Cartographic and Historical Records: Territorial and littoral classifications are determined by official cartography, legal documentation, and established history. These records must remain the primary reference point for state development and regional planning, free from contemporary political reinterpretation.

■ Preservation of Ancestral Territory: The geographic space extending from the mouth of the Qua Iboe River to Okposo carries a well-documented heritage connected to the southern Ibibio (Ekid) people. Defending these boundaries is a legitimate and responsible act of cultural and geographical stewardship.

■ Objectivity in Public Infrastructure Planning: Major economic assets, including the Ibom Deep Seaport project, must be executed in strict accordance with lawful boundaries and administrative realities, rather than being utilized as instruments for geopolitical expansion or state-creation agitations.

We commend Dr. Udonsak for his intellectual courage, administrative clarity, and dignified leadership. This intervention should not be viewed as an attack on any neighboring group, but as a constructive call for dialogue rooted in documented truths. We urge all stakeholders across Akwa Ibom State to prioritize historical facts and legal frameworks to ensure lasting harmony and equitable development.
Signed,
Ikpaisong. John Ayang

Akwa Ibom State's strategic alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the continuation of Governor Umo Eno's second term are essential for regional development. This synergy guarantees the completion of legacy infrastructure projects, enhances federal economic support, and maintains state-wide unity under the Akwa Ibom State Government directives.

Here are the key reasons Akwa Ibom must support this continuity:

1. Massive Federal Infrastructure and Economic Integration
Aligning with the center ensures Akwa Ibom remains at the forefront of national infrastructure development. Governor Eno’s strategic backing of President Tinubu has yielded major federal commitments, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and assurances for the Ibom Deep Seaport. Supporting Tinubu secures these investments, transforming the state into the commercial hub of the Niger Delta.

2. Completion of the ARISE Agenda
Governor Umo Eno’s visionary ARISE Agenda has brought inclusive governance, agricultural development, and infrastructural renewal across the state's 31 Local Government Areas. A second term ensures the completion of high-impact, ongoing initiatives—such as the ARISE Palm Resort and various rural development programs—securing long-term economic prosperity for the populace.

3. Sustainable Peace and Political Synergy
Under the current administration, peace and political reconciliation have been prioritized over destructive partisanship. Governor Eno has successfully fostered a non-partisan approach to development by collaborating seamlessly with the Presidency and the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio. This unity eliminates counter-productive political friction, creating a conducive environment for investors.

4. Direct Support from the Center
President Tinubu’s administration has consistently demonstrated goodwill toward Akwa Ibom by providing funds and federal backing for state-executed programs, including compassionate homes, hospital upgrades, and solar-powered computer labs in schools. Maintaining this harmonious relationship at the federal and state levels is the most effective pathway to attracting continuous democratic dividends.

5. Unprecedented Stakeholder Endorsements
The call for continuity in Akwa Ibom transcends political parties. The remarkable synergy and performance of both leaders have earned them overwhelming endorsements from traditional rulers, the Akwa Ibom State Traditional Rulers Council, and the Senatorial Districts, demonstrating mass grassroots and leadership confidence in their leadership.

Join the movement for continued progress! Support the synergy between the Presidency and the Akwa Ibom State Government to secure a brighter future for all indigenes.
