At the recently concluded Green Resurrection Seminar, Mr Jacob Daniel Leyiri facilitated a session titled "The Nexus Between Home Farming and Neighbourhood Security." He traced a chain of cause and effect. Overpopulation places increasing pressure on natural resources, climate change disrupts agriculture through drought, flooding, and desertification, and the resulting food insecurity and economic hardship fuel conflict, from farmer herder clashes to rising crime in our neighbourhoods.
This is exactly why the conversation matters to our work on climate security. Food security, environmental resilience, and community safety are not separate issues. They are interconnected parts of the same system.
Mr. Daniel's presentation showed that home farming is far more than a way to grow food. It is a practical climate security solution that strengthens household resilience, improves nutrition and livelihoods, fosters safer and more cohesive communities, and contributes directly to the achievement of SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions).
