TSM Media Reporters

The Executive Assistant to His Excellency, the Delta State Governor on Social Investment Programmes, Elder Dr. Isioma Okonta has lauded Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his compassionate leadership through the Delta State Widows Welfare Scheme urging Deltans to re-elect His Excellency with massive Votes in the upcoming national polls.

Speaking during a media engagement with the SIP Media Crew in his office in Asaba, Dr. Okonta described the scheme as "a beacon of hope" that has brought relief, dignity, and joy to vulnerable widows across the 25 Local Government Areas of Delta State.

According to Dr. Okonta, Governor Sheriff has ensured that registered widows receive monthly stipends to support their livelihoods and meet basic needs.

“The Governor understands that many widows are the sole providers for their families. This monthly support is helping them feed their children, pay house rent, and stay financially afloat,” he said.

In addition to financial support, the scheme provides free healthcare services in approved hospitals across the state.

“No widow under this scheme should die because she cannot afford treatment. Governor Sheriff has removed that burden. They now access quality medical care without paying a dime,” Okonta added.

Dr. Okonta noted that the programme has transformed the lives of thousands of widows who previously struggled in silence.

“We have seen widows who cried to us because they had no hope. Today, those same women are smiling, starting small businesses, and taking care of their children because of this intervention. The scheme has truly turned their tears and pains into joy.”

The EA described Governor Oborevwori as a promise keeper, a listening leader, and a welfare-awarding Governor whose heart is with the poor and vulnerable.

"This is the M.O.R.E Agenda in action. Governor Sheriff said he would leave no one behind, and the Widows Welfare Scheme is proof. He has taken the issue of widows’ welfare to heart and is delivering on it daily."

Dr. Okonta further stated that the *Delta State Widows Welfare Scheme is considered one of the best social welfare programmes in Nigeria today.

“Other states are coming to understudy what we are doing here. This is leadership with compassion. This is governance that puts people first.”

He reaffirmed that Governor Sheriff’s commitment to social welfare programmes ensures that the most vulnerable members of society are not forgotten, but are carried along in the Delta story. Chief Isioma Okonta summed up by urging the good people of Delta State to appreciate Governor Sheriff Oborevwori through re-election with overwhelming votes and maintain APC 5/5 voting pattern across boards in the upcoming general election come 2027.
