He was the king’s cupbearer to King Artaxerxes of Persia. When he heard that Jerusalem’s walls were broken down, he wept, fasted and prayed, then asked the king for permission to return to Jerusalem.
He later led the people in rebuilding Jerusalem’s walls in 52 days.
